CAA: Christian Anime Alliance

*Warning, some of the game titles mentioned in this reveiw are not suitable for people of all ages. This review is also a personal opinion so while you may agree/disagree, please state your opinions politely.*

Hello people, I have the Nintendo Wii, the Xbox 360 and the PS3. I have played with all of them for a while and they really feature some great gaming potential for all those who are into gaming. I have played a few games and looked at their features, and this is my stance on the next gen console war so far.

The Nintendo Wii

- This was the machine I was looking the most forward to trying. And it features a awesome control that rarely gives you any problems playing it. The wiimote and the nunchuk that is. Both of them are motion sensitive, meaning that they can pic up movements and that offers great game play. The Nintendo wii also boasts a few up and coming titles that looks great. SSBB, quite a few Mario games and many other titles that are yet to be revealed. There is little doubt that the controller which is easy to set up and use is little more than a massive gain for Nintendo already. The controller worked very well on the newest Zelda, however that game was originally designed for the GameCube, meaning that it was postponed for about a year and was probably not intended to feature all of the advantages the controls had to offer. A minus is that it does not to my knowledge feature either dvd/hd dvd/blueray. However in terms of its online action it also scores high because it is fairly easy to figure out. The development of games will be important as too how fine a purchase this will be. Seeing that I would love to see a few new titles become popular. I am also hoping that the new Zelda will come out early seeing that the last one was postponed for so long. As we wait in anticipation for new titles to be released, here is my score of the console.

+ For creativity
+ For the price
+ For the size of the console

- For the lack of a DVD player. *HD DVD/Blueray*
- Because they seem to be getting a large amount of games that looks like demo's/ uninteresting games. *My personal opinion*

The Xbox 360.

This was the first of the next gen consoles that I got. And I got to admit I have been pleasantly surprised by how much they have managed to do with it. The first thing that I really like about this console is the amount of titles that look interesting. It’s impossible to neglect the quality of games that are already released such as gears of war and Tom Clancy's rainbow six Vegas. However the games yet to be released got me on my toes at times. Games such as Mass effect, Blue Dragon, Fable 2, BioShock, GTA4, Halo 3, Lost Odyssey and Two worlds. The list goes on. The 360 also features a net connection that many seem to enjoy. Also they have a HD Dvd player which is a nice addition to this console. It also has a fair storing space which the Xbox Ultimate will capitalize on. *I have heard figures up to 120 gig on the ultimate* However it is somewhat let down by the performance from the console itself at times, meaning that messages such as *disc could not be read* could appear when you are playing and force you to shut down without having a chance to save. There are also a lot stuff that you can buy for the 360 that could be worth looking at. I would have loved to see if they could find something that would keep the console from crashing though.

+ For a massive amount of interesting titles. *Some who are already here and some who are yet to be released*
+ For the HD Dvd player.
+ For Nice graphics performance.
+ For that it can link up with the pc. *Meaning that it can be more than just a game console*

- For lack of creativity *The Nintendo got the motion sensetive controls, the PS3 seem to develop their eye toy, I would have loved the 360 to feature something that would be a bit more out of the box and new*
- For system performance at times. *Meaning that it seems to have a much larger possibility of either crashing or not being able to read the disk properly*.

Score = 8,1

The Playstation 3.

I feel that Sony may have been forced to rush into the next gen console wars, I have yet to see a exclusive title that really caught my attention. However, there is little doubt that the PS3 is a high performing console with tons of potential. There are titles being released that look really interesting such as the FF12 and the new Metal Gear Solid. Not to mention that some of the games that are yet to be released could quickly become fans favorites. It also features blueray, which has awesome quality. Being able to play most PS2/PS1 games are also a huge boost. Not to mention it got the capability to easily store multiple memory cards both for the PS2 and PS1. The version I have got 60 GB of storage space and that is a high number for a gaming console. Speaking of the memory cards I would have loved to see something that could transfer the memory from the old memory cards into the PS3. The PS3 is unable to have memory card's inserted to it so it could pose a problem if you wanted to save some data from the old games into the new PS3. The PS3 also has a high price tag attached to it. Either way, I think the future for this console may be great. Seeing that if they get some new games/blueray movies on the market then things may start to look very promising for this console. Sony has a great reputation with the PS1 and the PS2, and I doubt they will in the end let you down with the PS3. The online part of the PS3 has a feature known as house, meaning you get to sort of create your own character, your own home, and talk with others. In short the PS3 potential is unquestionable, but at the same time far from reached.

+ For Blueray.
+ For large memory space.
+ For titles with potential.
+ For the online capabilities.

- For HUGE price tag.
- For lack of exclusive titles available today. *Remember it is a personal opinion*


Score - 7,5

The ranking on my list today.

1 - The Xbox 360.
2 - The Nintendo Wii.
3 - The Sony Playstation 3.

This could easily change, like if the Wii could match up with the titles that the 360 seem to be getting, or if the PS3 price tag dropped. In short it seems to be a very close race. The Xbox 360 in short surprised me because of the game titles that are being released. Either way, all of the consoles seem to be of high quality. There are no easily predictable losers or winners on this list. I hope I have stated my view without getting any members angry. All of the consoles rock in my opinion, however there has been one who has been strongest in my opinion so far, and that is the 360.

Actually, the 360 does have a camera. It's just, as with the other consoles, hardly used at all. I think most people got it to use custom userpics on XBL.

Yoy may be right there, that detail may have slipped my mind. Still I feel that the - for the not creative stands because the Sony where the first to release it. *The eye toy which has a fun effect on some games* Still thanks for the heads up

In my opinion, I like the Wii better than the 360. It takes one step up from DDR in video games today! Get active dude!

The Nintendo wii interests me the most because of its exclusive copyrights. Especially Zelda, Mario, and, of course, pokemon.

Man all three?!

Heheh, I must agree from what I've seen that PS3 is not very innovative. They simply upped the graphics, where as Wii is more interactive with games like Twilight Princess.

Not to mention my pc, which is quite powerful.

Man, I couldn't even afford all three with the previous generation... Then again, I do make more money now. Still can't afford it. Bought my 360, and my fiancee keeps swearing she'll buy me a Wii someday.

We have a wii and 360... no plans to buy a PS3 in the near future... I personally like the Wii the best so far. The remote is just so much fun even if you're playing a game like Super Paper Mario or Zelda which weren't originally made for the Wii. I'm really trying to get my hands on Rayman Rapids or some other multiplayer games (hurry up SSBB!!) cause playing multiplayer party games seems like it would be so fricken awesome on this. And the ability to purchase N64, Genesis, SNES, and NES games makes the wii worth the purchase price alone (or it will once the library gets a bit bigger. But already games have been added over the last two weeks so it should have a nice library by the end of the year)

Meaning it can get able to download old games for different consoles. *I had a large collection of old SNES games on the old xbox* As well as the PS3 got its library, so every console has a own library. Problem with the wii's liberary is that it costs a bit to get games as far as I can tell.

And yeah, the Wii wins hands down when it comes to interactive multiplayer games. Such as warioware and several other titles. Still, I would love to see them also get some large MMORPG sort of thing, because the 360 and PS3 are likely to get a few of those.

The "library" you're referring to... Is that on a modded 360 using emulators? Because unless you mean XBLA, which wouldn't be Super Nintendo games, then there's no way to legally get those games on 360.

All 3 systems have their own downloadable service.

XBLA is the largest (and oldest)
Wii VC is the second largest
PSN is the smallest (and will be the most expensive once large games like Warhawk and Little Big Planet get released) This is US and europe only...

PSN in Japan, on the other has about 10x more games... PS1 games for download. This weeks update included the entire PS1 KoF collection... Japan is PS3s worst region, so they're trying really hard to court the Japanese market... I just wish they'd release those games in the US... Good thing is if you can manage to get a Japanese credit card or bank card, you can get all those games and they'll play on both PS3 and PSP...

I hope people realize I'm being sarcastic... At least I can fake a Japanese account for demos, but I wish the PS1 games would come to the US... I'd totally get a KoF game...

BTW, Jaden, did you get the 1.8 update, which upscales DVDs, smooths PS2 and PS1 games, and upscales those games as well? Plus, they improved compatibility with a lot of euro PS2 games (though still missing some high profile games like MGS2)

(US compatibility isn't affected because the US PS3s still have EE... Guess that's why MGS2 doesn't work on the Euro PS3s... Get it?)

The old xbox I had Bob was configurated and sold to me by another person. And not the 360, I meant the old one. At either rate, if memory serves right some person who 'may' *its hard to remember because it was quite a few years ago* have worked for microsoft sold it to me. *Or my dad you could say who gave it to me* Either way, is not the SNES emulator legal if you already own a Snes? Much the same with the game titles. *I am asking questions, not giveing answers here*

Either way, I have not downloaded the 1.8 update so far, I may in the future look at it.

As for the PS3 library, it looked quite impressive. And if I am correct that they will offer a downloadable service to newer titles then that will get all the better. And the blueray format will be a vital part to PS3, because it is at a war with the HD DVD currently which is no small opponent. The blueray as far as I know is of higher quality and price. So I think if blueray wins that war then it will be for the better for PS3, if HD DVD wins the war then it will be for the better of the 360. Of course it could also become multiple formats. Either way, I hope blueray will win. Still a price drop would be nice.......

It's not that the emulators are illegal, it's that modding the xbox to put emulators on it isn't legal. You can't run emulators off an unmodded xbox, 360, PS2, Gamecube, or Wii... You can, however, run Emulators off unmodded dreamcasts and PS3s (PS3 via linux.)

I do emulation... I'm not really here to discuss that, just that you can't compare PSN to the entire back catelogue of SNES, NES, gameboy, gameboy advance, genesis, and MSX games available on the xbox (or the 360) via emulation via a modded system... Even though XBLA surpasses PSN downloadable games(as of this moment, but Sony is working hard to get more PSN games) adding emulation on top of that isn't really fair.

All three download services cost money for full games... Wii Virtual console games and PSN games can both cost up to 10 bucks (for N64 games and PS1 games respectively) and they both offer 8 bit games at 5 or 6 dollars. I have NO clue how much XBLA games cost... I'm gonna guess 6 bucks on average. One advantage PS3 and 360 have over wii is the demo downloads. This is just beginning for all of them, though, even though XBLA had a headstart and a LOT more games, including some really nice puzzle games. Nintendo would do well to allow NEW games to be released on VC, but they'll milk the nostalgia crowd dry before they do that.

The basic idea is this: Stanford researchers are performing very complex simulations that, on stanford's servers alone, would take about 10 years per simulation... That gets reduced drastically when they distribute it, and it just so happens cell based machines (like PS3) are much better at most types of folding than standard processors, so the PS3s have done like 2-3 time more work than all the other computers in the project...

GPU based calculation is even more efficient than cell, but is limited in its uses (wheras cell can do the normal calcualtions)... If you have a top of the line graphics card, it's worth setting up GPU folding on your PC and normal folding on your PS3.

BTW, folding of course refers to the protein folding, but it is also refers to running the simulations (because the simulations are "folding") just to clarify...

FoH has been around for a long time now. I had it on my gaming PC back when I was a junior in highschool (six or so years ago). I think it's cool that it's on the PS3, and I'm hoping for a Wii and a 360 version. No, this isn't a "Gee! I'ma never gettin' me sum PS3 acshun, so I wannit elsewhere" thing. It's a "It would be great if we could get even more people participating in this program" kind of thing.
Also, we need some fighters on the next gen. In a bad way. Yeah, I've got DoA, and Tekken's comin out, but where are the SNK games? Guilty Gear? Soul Calibur?

I agree... Everyone should do F@H. Don't expect to see it on Wii, though, because Nintendo is "all about the games" 360 is a possibility, but Peter Moore sorta waffles on the issue, sometimes saying he may do it, sometimes saying the effort is pointless and doesn't lead to anything... I think the new research has changed his mind on that, and we may see it come to the 360. If so, it'll probably be a GPU folding rather than the regular kind.

I also agree about the fighters... Of Course, There are 4 3d fighters, though. Tekken, DoA, Virtua fighter... All 3 are probably multiplatform. There is also Mortal Kombat, which people tend to forget about... It's on all the systems too, I believe (the only one that's on the Wii, not counting Virtual console, because then they get Virtua Fighter 2 and Street Fighter 2 as well) A high def remake of Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo is coming to PSN and XBLA, and it looks really nice. Actually, along those lines, a High Def remake of Puzzle Fighter and Megaman is also coming... 10 bucks for High Def Super Street Fighter 2 is worth it a lot more than 6 bucks for crappy super nintendo Street Fighter 2, and a high def megaman remake? I'm so psyched. I think downloadable games are gonna be huge, though not as much as boxed games. Oh, and there's also the arcade version of MKII on PSN, which is a lot of MK fans favorite game in the series, due to less cheesy fatalities...

As for SNK, in Japan only the entire PS1 KoF collection was released for download on PSN... There is no word on this coming to the US, yet.
