Considering we have a large group of FFVII fans here, I would assume some are interested in Square Enix's upcoming PSP game.

Well, I hope you brushed up on your Japanese. Here is the Japanese trailer.

So what do you think? And... um... can someone translate what happened in that trailer?

I can't really translate on what they characters said. The trailer was great! Now I even more eager to buy this game, if it comes to the US.

Yes... very :/ Too expensive a system for me to get for like, a whole 3 games on there that interest me. Besides, I've got my DS.

Wow! It looks very interesting. It makes me want a PSP! If only it was for DS. :(

Glad to see this one actually has some more gameplay footage. Could be potentially good.

I'm with the DS crowd, i really hate to go and buy a PSP just to play the game. :( Game looks awesome though and with a Gackt cameo non the less!
God Bless,
Souba

That makes me think of something interesting... what if they port the 3 main Final Fantasy titles (VII, VIII, and IX) to the DS? The control scheme is more than perfect for the three titles, and the only thing that'd suffer would be the lack of real stereo sound and/or rumble feedback.

As intriguing as this game looks, I think we can all agree that it's time for Square to quit milking the VII mythos and move on.

I felt the VII mythos was some of the best they had. I just fear the day they apply the same model to VIII. VI would be nice, though.

Well, this one HAS been planned for a few years now... Either than Before Criss (which we may NEVER see) and maybe the possibility of a 7 remake, I think they're done with this franchise... I think they're more focusing on the Ivalice compilation and the one that 13 is based off (can't remember what it's called, but it has a big fancy name to it).

I support the milkage of FFVII.

I'm totally intrigued by the setting, the characters, what happens next... There's just something about it.

the problem is that most of these FFVII spin-off games/sequals really only appeal to FFVII fans. most other people probably won't be able to grasp the full concept of the story...

This is the only FFVII spin-off I really have been looking forward to playing. I've always wanted to know who Zack was, and what type of a hero Sephiroth was before going insane.

*nods* Yes. From the short thing that I saw from Last Order, Zack seemed like a neat-o character (and I must've missed some cut scenes when I played through 7 because there was a scene or two in there that I never had seen, until I watched it :/)

Too bad Before Crisis has :/ graphics and on cell phone in Japan (once again), because all the turks and background story there looked qutie good too (and possibly intertwines quite a bit with CRISIS Core, since it's Before CRISIS *shrugs*).

... You're kidding right?

DoC was pretty crappy. Might as well play Devil May Cry. The retarded cellphone games are stupid. Advent Children had no character development, no plot, just cool action scenes. Now this?

While it looks rather interesting, I'm going to pass.

Conclusion: The VII mythos is just retarded. FFVII has too big of a fanbase, and it's probably the most high overrated game ever. (That and Halo)

And with FFVI, I'm all for a remake. But if they spew out 4 spin-offs and a movie, then I'd get pretty annoyed.

say what?! FFVI? i do believe you mean FFVII right?

I'm still banking on a FFIX remake or adaption of some kind. This game often gets lost in the shuffle, being a nostalgic trip, living between FFVII and FFX, etcetera. Square has more characters to deal with than just Cloud, Sephiroth, and crew; pay attention to some of your other universes, guys.

And the day FFIX is released as an Anime series is the day I have a new favorite Anime.

Give milk, you cash cow! GIIIIIIIIVE!

I completely support more VII games. I also support VIII being milked.

Mmmm...2% Final Fantasy...

No matter how much this game sucks, Square's wallets will overflow.

This likes nicer than their other attempts, though.

my bad, i misread your post and naturally assumed that you forgot the extra "I" in FFVII. i didn't notice that you posted that you were writing in future tense and thought you meant to say,"And with FFVII, I'm all for a remake. But WHEN they spew out 4 spin-offs and a movie, then I get pretty annoyed."

Oh, I'd be up for that. I've repeatedly said that if I had 100 billlion dollars, I'd fund Squ'eenix to remake FF6 in next gen, but other than me getting ahold of 20 million I wouldn't mind absolutely WASTING just for one game, it won't happen... FF6 was about the LEAST popular game in the series in Japan... Meaning we won't see it. I know, it sucks... It seems America doesn't have a copyright on bad taste... (that would be New Zealand, but I digress)

I'll be getting this. I liked Advent Children, as it served as a proper ending to FF7, which had the worst ending in a Final Fantasy game... Like, in the entire series... So, Advent Children fixed that for me... I loved Last Order... It seems square finally figured out how to make an Anime. I didn't play DoC, but I hear it sucks... I think this will be different. If nothing else, the story is already looking good. I wonder how far it will go... Will it go all the way up to Last Order? Hmm... After seeing how they had to reduce disc space needed on Portable ops (no in engine cut scenes, much less voice acting than a normal MGS game), I can't imagine Crisis Core being that long of a game, except for, perhaps, endless leveling or something... That is, of course, unless they release it on multiple discs... If I see a 2 or 3 UMD release for this game, I'm going to expect something good.

Last Order was good, but it was far too short. They could have done something more, with what I saw.

Now I don't know whether to be excited or to wallow in an existential pit of angst. On one hand, Zack is far and away my favorite FF7 character. On the other...I'll probably never own a PSP, especially not for just one game.

As much as I hate to say it, there are a lot of PSP games coming out right now that are making me rethink it. The biggest reasons for me not to at this point are: a) money and b) Principle for the condescending way Sony has been treating we gamers lately.

Psst:

Metal Gear Portable Ops
Exit
Loco Roco
Final Fantasy Tactics: Lions War
The FF1 and FF2 remakes that vastly outshine the previous remakes with better than FF6 level 2d sprites, special battle effects, and Amano's artwork strewn throughout the game. Oh, and all the updated material featured in the PS1 and GBA upgrades, plus more
Crush
A number of RPGs that are on their way.

There are good games for this system, plus if you're into emulation, and can find a used system with an old firmware, and can read instructions REALLY WELL... You can easily make the PSP the best portable ever... I did... NES and SNES as well as videos (and I'm not talking about UMD movies, either) and pictures... Too bad the browser is crap, but that's a minor issue... It has more to do with screen size than the browser itself.

I'm having so much fun with my PSP... Honestly, it's my new favorite thing. The only problem is it draws me away from friends because I get caught up in playing it when I should be hanging out...

It does help that I've got a friend who gave it to me at Gamestop's buyback price of 60 dollars...

FF Tactics would make it two games. Though I honestly don't have the money for a new handheld, more or less a game for one, so I'll probably just sit and drool like I've done for a while now.

All I know is that the red-coated guy called Zack a puppy [koinu] at the beginning. Shows you how little useful Japanese I know. XD
