I didn't see any thread like this here, so I thought I'd post it...
Nominate what you think would be the hardest bosses in video game history here :3

I feel compelled to post the final boss from the first game which looks way harder.
The screen is sideways but...you get the gist of it.

Tch. Forget bosses,
this was the most difficult feat known to video gaming.
Actually, I'd probably have to say Mad Jack from
Donkey Kong 64, a tricky fight made near impossible by an evil camera, but I can't find a YouTube video of it.

...is this supposed to be a joke? I seriously want to think it's a joke along the lines of "To get past the tricky Goomba in World 1-1 of Super Mario Bros., try jumping over it!"
But looking at the comments it seems people ACTUALLY didn't know how to get past that barrel.
Unbelievable. I have lost even MORE faith in humanity. How do these people keep from drowning in the shower?

You don't know anything about the barrel, man. I'm serious. There were therapy groups for it and everything.
Basically, it's a case where the solution is simple, quick, and easy; the tricky part is the game gives you absolutely no instructions for how to do it. You saw him jump on top of the spinning barrel, followed by the barrel shifting up and down till it went low enough for him to hop off? That's not automatic, you have to do that yourself - by pushing up and down on the control pad. But the game drops you no hints that you can actually do that, no prompting; if you know what to do, it's easy, but otherwise you literally have no clue what you're supposed to do next. And given the nature of Sonic games, plenty of people probably assumed it was a dead end (the entrance closes behind you, if the video cut if off).
And then one day, one guy figured it out, told everybody what to do, we all hit ourselves with blunt instruments, and it continues to be a running joke among Sonic fans.

Are you kidding me?
Even I figured the barrel thing out and I was into Sonic more than ever in first grade. I either got lucky or you played some other Sonic 3...
Anyways, I can't really think of the hardest boss I've ever versed, but those two last bosses from the Mushihimesama games are truly insane though. Especially on Ultra Hard...

No, I am not joking. "Luck" is definitely the word.

I guess I was lucky then...

Well, presuming you don't take cheap tactics (playing it in Easy Mode, using items) I think some of the bosses in the Devil May Cry series are fairly challenging. Also, I think that the Battletoads bosses deserve some credit just because most of them can kill you so easily.
That's an arcade game, though, right? I'm inclined to say they don't count, because you can just keep feeding quarters and the game is
designed to make you lose. But if there was a console version where you had to do that on one set of lives... that's an insane number of shots.
However, though it's interesting to see how chaotic that is, bosses like that don't impress me because it's easy to program a lot of shots in. If the players had to do more to survive (because there's only so much you can do like that) it would actually be more difficult, in a sense.

AHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! THAT'S HOW YOU DO IT?
*dies several dozen times*
It's been so long since I played that game. I just gave up.

I don't know what the thing's name was, but it was the final enemy on the last disk of "The Legend of the Dragoon"...
GAH! Now I feel like playing again! ::runs off to hook up his Playstation again::

I can't remember his name, but it was the boss in... in.... Scooby Doo and the Cyber Chase. He was so hard!
I still haven't beaten him to this day. Call me wussy if you will, but when Shaggy moves like a burden-laden snail, and the white dude moves like, fast, it's hard! And you're fighting with freakin' pies! PIES!

There's a console version of the game I posted. I somewhere saw a video of someone playing through it... I'd find and post it but it has quite a bit of cussing so I won't.

For shear volume of effort involved, I'd have to say the hardest boss I ever beat was the final enemy in the FFX Arena.

Omega Weapon in FFVIII. Barring the use of exploits, of course.

Exploits are for wusses. In my experience, beating weapon (FF7) was more about knowing the right things to do, not raw level treadmill:

The Omega Weapon (FF8) was a little harder, but not that bad:

FF8 was less treadmill, I would say.
They are, of course, totally open to interpretation.

Well if you want to think about it that way, no boss in any RPG is really difficult. :p

Of course, the discipline involved in actually DOING it that long, well, that's potentially tough.

Real bemani... Man, I'll stick to DDR... CTS is not my friend... Even guitar hero is a bit much for me... Much less pain working with my feet than with my fingers, to be honest.
The hardest boss I ever played? Hmm... Well, I was never able to beat Exdeath... There is no boss I've played on any other FF game I wasn't able to beat... I don't know why i just couldn't beat him...
Yeah, I'd say arcade games don't count... I can beat Ninja Turtles with enough quarters, but that game's a bit much for me on a console's diet. I think I can get through level 2 without getting game over, but not so much after that...
Speaking of Ninja Turtles, the original Nintendo game (aka the water level game) is SO BROODING HARD! It's impossible to beat without exploiting bugs... Really... Stuff comes at you so fast in the technodrome, and you can't kill any of them in one or two hits, so you can't avoid getting hit without using a screen glitch, and pizza is few and far between... I came so close to beating that game, but I can't do it! I hear Shredder is pretty hard in there, too...

Sephiroth blindfolded? I think that would make him easier. Probably trip up over his own sword.

With no continue option? Wow, that's hard. From the video I couldn't quite tell if it was even possible to avoid some of those waves.
On that subject, it would be annoying to make an impossible boss where it looks like you should be able to dodge its shots but the gaps are actually one pixel too short. But at the gameplay video on the title screen you'd show someone going through them, just to play with people.

On a similar note, the last Elite Mark in FFXII is also difficult because it has so ridiculously much HP.

Well, if we're going that route, how about this?
Bowser from the original Mario... without ever touching your controller.

Ok, so for that Sonic 3 part (which I have beaten several times before) was that a part you HAD to get through to beat the level, or just a special area? I'm pretty sure I knew the barrel thing before which was why I thought "..." when watching the clip :/ I mean, stuff like that is typical on Sonic games where you have to constantly use extra power on special platforms, whether moving it up or down, or running on it :/ Either way, I thought that zone has TONS of those barrels you have to move. *shrugs* Guess I'd be concidered one of the smarter cookies in the gaming batch, I guess^^ Looking at the comments, whoa!
If it WAS in fact a main part of the level, I can IMAGINE how many people have like, never finished the game. It's the actual boss on that zone that bugs me^^ I've done it before, can't remember how to do it again when I was replaying the game on my Mega Hits Collection :/
As for overall tough bosses, I'm not exactly what you'd call a pro gamer, so many many bosses even the ones I've beaten were concidered close calls^^

That was the example I was going to use but I notice a lot people complain about Seph's difficulty level from KH when I found it quite easy (well, because I was at a high level, but he's SUPPOSED to be fought at a high level).
Yeah, the person blindfolded would be the person with the controller. -_-

No, that's the only one you have to move. The others levitate and rotate on their own. For awhile I thought I was the only person to get stuck on that part, but then I found a bunch of people who said the same thing.
And if all else fails, it's a joke, people. We felt pretty stupid ourselves at the time, so let it lay.

Real men fight Sephiroth at very low levels.
Like the guy who pwned sephiroth at level 38.

Mecha-Hitler
I can't count the number of times I was utterly PWND by Mecha-Hitler in Wolfenstein 3d.
It's not like he was actually the hardest boss, even* -- though he did turn into a regular, dual-chaingun-wielding Hitler once you defeated Mecha-Hitler and you had to fight him too (double Hitlers!).
Rather, I think it was just the idea of being pwnd by a robotic Nazi dictator that I found so daunting.
That guy is
evil!
Who would have guessed?
* Technically, that would be General Fettgesicht, I suppose, but I'm still going with Mecha-Hitler for sentimental reasons, if nothing else.

Yeah, the numbers just don't add up. Robots. Nazis. I don't know where we went wrong.
