I found a video on YouTube that talks about the original 1987 Street Fighter game.

The narrative is in Japanese (I could make out the words Hadouken, Shoryuken and ninja, woooottt! :), but it's good to watch:

ah street fighter. classic game right there. it's even older than i am
(way older). my brother used to play street fighter for sega genesis. i remember, my favorite character was vega but i all i ever did was do his sliding kick. i was like five at the time so i couldn't really pull out any of the special moves. sorta regret selling that game (and the system).

Hehe, me and my friends were big into it. That and then Mortal Kombat. I was the only girl in my youth group of about 10 boys, and I sorta got the nickname "Chun Li". I was even good enough at the game to beat some of them...
And then one day I went to a different friend's house (no one from the youth group), and I played all of the guys there and beat them...
... and one of those guys - though I had no idea then - I ended up marrying. And I am happier than I ever thought I could be!!
However, I don't play games against him anymore, because I ALWAYS lose and I HATE that. XD He's just too good - it was a fluke that I beat him that day.
Of course, we HAD to pick up the Street Fighter Anniversary Edition for PS2. Ah, the memories. XD
And then there was Killer Instinct... ^_^

jonn_jinn - have you played any other incarnations of Street Fighter since then?

dyzzispell - I also enjoyed Mortal Kombat, but found having to press a button to block not as easy as simply pulling back on the joystick.

I used to know a girl in high school who was good at Street Fighter II as well. She played Ken and could do fireball and dragon punch everytime. When she used Guile she also knew how to exploit the "shadow throw" "feature".

I didn't play Street Fighter until SF Alpha 2 came out. I used to play Dan for fun but in a really serious challenge I'd change to Ryu instead. Slow but powerful. Cheap but effective combos. The two rules that Ryu lives by as an SF character. HAHAH.

When I played SF Ex, the person I enjoyed using was Allen Snider, but a shame he did not get ported to the future Ex versions, because I think he was actually "owned" by Arika and not Capcom. Kairi was also cool but I couldn't get enough of Allen's "Justice Fist!".

I have to agree with you there. Mortal Kombat was never my favorite.
I think I liked Killer Instinct more. I loved being able to pull off 43+ hit combos.... (and being a GIRL who could do that!)

One of my best friends in high school and I spent many hours and quarters (actually I spent most of the quarters, he usually stomped me) at the Taylor mart SFII machine. He got killed in a car wreck freshman year of college, so SF holds many dear memories for me, as well as being on of the greatest fighter games ever.
