What to get...? (PC)

Well, after wandering around EBGames and Wally-world (Wal-mart >_> ) today, I noticed quite a few good games that were around $20 or less. So I thought "eh, guess I can try one of these to hold me over." However, I'm not sure which to get.
My current choices ('help me choose' is what I'm getting at) :
-Halo - just... cuz... it's Halo! Though I'll probably only do so if it's online.
-Half-life/HL2 - if I do get this, I need to know which one. I've seen the "Award Winning" or whatever one (that has "Half-life 2," Half-life 2: Deathmatch," "Half-life: Source," and "Counter Strike: Source") and "Half-life 2: Episode One."
-City of Villains/City of Heroes - um, basically, I need to know: is it fun? Is it online? How good is customation (i.e., can I make, like, animal-people =o ).
-Psychonauts - well, I found this at EBGames, so I'd have to go there again to get it (which is 30+ miles from where I live), so I'm not sure I'd get it just yet anyways... =x
-F.E.A.R. - ...maybe. I kinda wary, but it seems interesting. >_>
And just so ya know, mah computer specs (laugh and I spam you to kingdom come):
80GB HDD, 1GB RAM, Pentium 4, 2.80 GHz. Don't really get, but thought I might as well put it up. >_>

Half Life 2. Why? comes with HL1, HL2, CS, and something else that I forget. All for like 40 dollars. Play HL1 first, then HL2.
Honestly, the package will keep you happy for ever.
Edit: THe 4th thing is HL2: DM. Never tried it, heard that CS is just better.
And your specs aren't anything to laugh at. You'll run these games very well.

fear is awesome, graphics wise and isn't really that bad... it's like a hoorror movie and a game in 1. Just be sure to play it in a dark basement at night by yourself, and it will be awseomely fun.
but i've heard HL2 is good too.

I think I'll definetly be grabbing it then (online play?).

$20 or less?! Did you learn anything from the Gamecast, Myoti?
Neverwinter Nights Diamond Edition!!!
*clears throat.*
Okay, fine. So I am the only CAA member who adores that game. To your list....
Myoti wrote:-Halo - just... cuz... it's Halo! Though I'll probably only do so if it's online.
Just get it, seriously. Your computer can run it, and yes, the PC version has online play.
Myoti wrote:Half-life/HL2 <snip>
Cannot speak for it, but everyone tells me it is great.
Myoti wrote:City of Villains/City of Heroes
It is an MMORPG like World of WarCraft only it is about comic book superheroes and supervillains instead of elves and orcs. If you are not interested in MMORPGs, do not get this game.

Link Antilles and mastersquirrel get all happy and giddy over this game. *shrugs shoulders.*

Actually, this will really test your PC's graphic and CPU power. It is a real question whether you can run this game in its intended glory. This is also a PS3 launch title. Great reviews everywhere for this FPS.

Actually, you are missing one crucial piece of hardware info. Your video card. That is even more important than your CPU when it comes to gaming performance.

I would recommend a console version of the wonderful delightfulness that is Tim Schafer’s Psychonauts. Still, don't let that stop you from buying and supporting the side of awesome. As for FEAR, apparently the multiplayer is now FREE:

Now to make your choice harder (if you haven’t played these)…. I would also check out “Command and Conquer: First Decadeâ€

Remember, I'm not a halo fanboy for a
reason. Likewise I am a half-life fanboy for a reason. The reason being is that half-life's gameplay and plot is vastly superior than halos.

Halo is teh almighty shoter that I am still playing alot. Not as much as halo 2 (which Has not been released for the PC) The pc version's of Halo multiplayer is alot of fun.
F.E.A.R is probably the best recent horror shooter to come out. Amazing graphics and Amazing Gameplay i recommend this highly if A) You don't mind Blood and language (both are pretty harsh) and B) If you have a high end Pc

Hrm, might just keep F.E.A.R. off for the time being...

Ah, yes, that. Um... where do I find where it is? o.o
Remember, Myoti, do not let a fanboy's prejudice restrict your choice in picking games.
Hah, we'll see. =p

I would, if I could ever figure out how to get it to work (it kept saying something about a Patch or something, I think; I'll probably have to download it again to find out...).
I would recommend a console version of the wonderful delightfulness that is Tim Schafer’s Psychonauts.
When I get an XBOX (whenever that will be...) this'll be the first on my list (probably along with Panzer Dragoon Orta).

WHAT! WHAT!
Your browsing games you want for under 20!!!
BATTLEFIELD 1942 should have been your first choice. Unless you already have it, in which case I forgive you. Get it, my friend! I still play it ceaselessly, and it can be modded halfway to Alpha Centauri.
But from that list, I would go with Halo. COH can get tedious after a while, like most MMORPG's (except for DAOC and GW muwahaha).
And your computer is magnificent. My RAM is a mere 383. haha. I need to get more.

Um, not like I'm actually hunting them down. I just happened to see the price tag and went "OH SNAP! MUST HAVE!!" =p
Would BATTLEFIELD 1942 be the one where every character is an actual player or... something like that? o_O
Hrmg... seems to be a decision between Halo and HL... I would ask which one has the more fun multiplayer, but that could lead to more people pulling me in two different directions.
*goes to watch some videos of them*
EDIT: Quick question: is HL ever, shall we say, "disturbingly violent," or pretty much just people and creatures getting shot up? (and dang, some of the weapons in this game look sweet, especially that gravity gun thing)

Darn right it was coming. How can I in good conscience as a Gamecast host not mention this bargain?
Neverwinter Nights is not an MMORPG though it has a
free (no subscription fees and such) online multiplayer component. That being said, the Diamond Edition includes all released single player campaigns including the expansion packs and some single player premium modules. So you can keep yourself busy for a long time without even touching the multiplayer component.
Myoti wrote:Ah, yes, that. Um... where do I find where it is? o.o
On Windows XP, you have to look at your Display Properties. One easy way to access it is to right-click on your desktop and select Properties. You should get a window that looks like the attached pic. My video card is a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5900XT.
Myoti wrote:Hah, we'll see. =p
Well, if you need a reminder, go look at Icarus's sig.

Ah, I see then. Well, how exactly does the gameplay work?
As for my Graphics card, it seems to be an Intel(R) 82915
G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family. Not sure if that's good or not.

Half-life is rather violent. The headcrab zombie are rather nasty. They are quiet gorey. In halo the flood isn't pretty either. The multiplayer of halo is better than the non-existent multiplayer of Half-life. Unless you mean counterstrike which is run on the half-life engine.

Creature violence I'm okay with (I mean more like human "gibs" and such, which is what I tend to avoid).

Not much human gore in the second one but the first one does have quiet a bit. Professors are pulled into vents then soon after peices of them come flying out. Buuut its not actaully as bad as it sounds. The graphics of the original half-life are not great anymore so it is actually more funny then anything. Also the original Half-life allows you to turn off gore.

Ah, that sounds good then. I may try to get this soon.
EDIT: Just tried a HL demo out (Half-life:Uplink). Seems kinda interesting... (no gravity guns in the demo... >.> ).

Would you be meaning these tentacle things that pull guys into the ceiling and start munching on them? They were in the demo, and I don't know if it's the same thing.

sorry but the Gravity Gun is in HL2 only
For the vents, that was probably relating to the Bullsquid (fast two-legged monster that spits out it's stomach acids at you) not the Barnacles.

Yea i think thats it but what it was spiting out was blood and organs not acid. they just kind fell out of the vents. In the original not HL2

Then what Grubb is talking about sounds like the "Barnacle" things. They hung on the ceiling and had a little tentacle thing they'd try to grab you (or random people) with.

Actually that not what I am thinking of thought they are very similar. The thing I am talking about only happens a few times. Once while your escorting a sentist someone is just pulled into a vent and you don't see what happens you just see him go in them organs come out. Not sure what it was exactly maybe it was a barnicle
