The Video Game Recommendation Thread

Thanks to Shadowchild's super idea I will now start a thread.
Just state "If I like these kind of games, can you think of a game like that I would really enjoy?"
State what you're looking for most such as Plot, Gameplay, Graphics (sad but true) ect.
Let me start off by saying to all RPG fans that I recommend Grandia II and only Grandia II to you. Most of you will find Grandia I, Xtreme, and III as not as good. Grandia II gets a ten in every category besides graphics since it was made for the DC and released on PS2.

I second the recommendation of Grandia II. It was a very good game, but I can't say how it compares to the other Grandias, since it's the only one I've played.
Also, to any RPG fans, the best RPG I've played lately is Suikoden V. It's highly addictive, well, at least it was for me, and yet it was also annoying at the same time. This annoying aspect mainly came into play when I found out that I'd missed one recruitable character that I wanted and I decided to start the whole game over.

hmm...well, i'm always looking for another good game. Downside is all I have is a PC - unless someone wants to sell me their PS2 cheap.
I enjoy the combat style of Jedi Academy & Halo, and i love the plot of those two as well as Knights of the Old Republic. I like a bit of mystery & sci-finess, but im not much for gore(im still trying to get up the nerve to play half life 2 after that zombie demo level - all those saws & blood. XD)
I also love exploration quest games, but Ive honestly played very few I like. Myst confuses me & has too little character interaction. I love games where you collect items & work from an inventory, but I dont know...do they even make decent ones like that anymore? alot of what i play is 90's stuff & demos, so I dont know. i'm cheap
i dont buy games much.
anyways...suggestions? there's 2 different kinds of games there, so it's worth a shot to suggest for either. ^_^

HARVEST MOON FTW. xD
Hmm.. well. >_> <_< I don't think there'll be a game like the one I'm looking for, BUT LET'S SEE. xD
I like fast pace games. D: I don't like puzzles. Puzzles don't tend to be very fast paced, especially annoying retrace your step ones. D:< I also like emotional, "Awwww." stuff. xD]
And.. the plot doesn't need to be anything, "OMIGOSHWOW." But I needs to be kept entertained. xD;;
Um.. music.. I dunno. Something that sounds good? Lawl. D: srsly tho, if I like a game's music and battle system, I can be kept hooked. xD;;
Graphics... um.. well, I don't really care how good the graphics are, but more about the style. I tend to get attracted to anime-styled games of course, lawl. D:
I also don't like things to be confusing. xD;; I'm.. very... SIMPLE.

Yeah Harvest Moon is good. And for more fun try the Worms. Most would say that amageden and world party are the best.

For anyone who wants something different in an RPG, try any of the Mario RPG games (Paper Mario, Mario and Luigi, etc.). They may not be as "complex" as some RPGs, but they're quite good and addictive once you get into them (and the humor in them is an added bonus XD ).
And for anyone wanting a quick dose of action, try Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones. The rating is actually a bit misleading. There's blood, yes, but by the time the more "violent" bits appear, all the monsters turn into sand creatures, so it ends up not being the violent anymore. =p

i recently started magna carta not long ago, its a fantsy styled rpg in many ways similar to ff. the graphics are satisfactory , the voice acting is good, and the gameplay is unique.
all in all i give it a 8/10
it is kinda rare tho. so finding it may take awhile.

I'm not so sure I can second a recommendation for Magna Carta. It *is* a decent game with good graphics and decent voice acting, but the problem I have with it is the battle system.
It starts off as a neat alternative to the SO3 battle system, but it gets old quickly. They try to mix turn-based with real-time; and I'll admit it was fun at first, but eventually, the battles get tedious due to a limited amount of actions you can take (attack or use items), and also because it's practically impossible to evade enemy encounters. The way it goes is, if you see an enemy wandering around on the map, you *are* going to fight it. I think throughout playing that game (and I have no idea how far I am), I've evaded about two battles. Of course, you can run, but if you're already in a battle, why not just finish it?
I know the battle system was every reviewer's qualm with this game, but I looked past that and picked it up anyway (since I got it for 20 bucks), only to find that the reviewers were right. A lot of this may stem from the fact that SO3 is my favorite current-gen RPG, and I may be comparing them a little too much. Compared to the 8 Seppuku gave it, I'd have to give it a 6. Enjoyable game, but it gets old QUICK.
Plus, I hate Reith. I thought that I hated Sophia the most, out of all RPG's, but compared to Reith, Sophia is great.

FadedOne, if you like KOTOR, you'll probably like Neverwinter Nights (Is that the title?). From what I hear, KOTOR is the same as NN, just with a different setting. ^^
Games I'd recommend in general:
Beyond Good and Evil (Action game, very clean, extremely fun)
Oni (Terrible graphics, but still an awesome, underrated action game)
The Monkey Island Series (The most awesome comedy-adventure series of games of all time)
Sam and Max Hit the Road (The most awesome stand alone comedy-adventure game of all time)
Day of the Tentacle (The SECOND most awesome stand alone comedy-adventure game of all time XD)
The Myst Series (Adventure games only for those with good attention spans XD)
The Legend of Legaia (Old RPG. But still fun. I'm kicking myself for selling it...)

yea the battle system is the biggest flaw in MC, tho it doesnt sway me much from likeing the game.
i just remember a great rpg for ps2.
shing megamin tensei nocturne. its a post apocalyptic demon overrun world set in the modern age. u can convince demons u fight to join u and merge them togatehr and al sorts of stuff. the story is mystery-esque and overall a really good game, but kinda hard, not suggested for newbies. classic rpg fighting, overall done verywell
. 9/10

hmm no neverwinter is very different, its a dnd style game, top view hack and slashy-er. perhaps your thinking of jade empire? it was made by the kotor people and has the same engine.

I second that. The Mario RPG games are a BLAST. And if you can get your hands on the ROM for Super Mario RPG, do so. Because that game is serioulsy good. And loads of fun, for that matter. XD
While I'm here, I may as well reccommend two of my favorite games, Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross. Both are incredibly good games; the first (Trigger) is considered a classic by most, the second (Cross) is considered a classic by me. XD Really, really wonderful games.

Fade to Black (PS1)
I got it for $2 and I can hardly do anything on it. I'm recommending it only for difficulty. I got abotu 10 mintues in (althought it took me hours to get that far) and quit playing. One of these days I'll get back aroudn to it. The graphics aren't that great, and you can't adjust your corsshairs vertically, only horizontally, which really sucks and makes aiming a pain. So, there's alot of things about the game to not like, but I guess if you've got a few extra bucks to spend on something that'll just get on your nerves, why not try it out?

Oh, I agree! While the majority of people in this thread would seriously disagree with me, I did enjoy Chrono Cross more than Trigger, which is why I consider it my all-time favorite game. :3 Also, Radical Dreamers was a good game too (the transitional game between Trigger and Cross), especially since it features the same characters from Cross.

I third the Chrono games recomendations. And for those of you who have played and loved the Chrono games, I highly recomend Xenogears. It is an excellent game in it's own right, and I also think it has that same "feel" that Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross did.

I was just about to say that....
Well, since you took Xenogears, I will reccommend the Xenosaga series. Good storyline, good gameplay, good characters, good music...Great games!

Actually, DMC3 is the first in the series storyline wise (not to mention
BEST in the series storyline wise). So it is perfectly fine to play the thrid one first.

Thanks for the mention of Xenogears. The team that brought us the Chrono games (now left Square and are working on the Xenosaga series and possibly the rumored "Chrono Brake") were originally intending to develope "Chrono Trigger II".
They eventually decided to make a standalone game with the "Chrono" feel and they even add a Mecha twist.
Xenogears is a truly superb RPG.
However, I find myself hesitant to recommend Xenosaga, the prequel series.
You see, the bosses are the only form of difficulty and they are, let me put it this way, HARD. With the exception of the first, every boss I encountered was a guaranteed 3 months of trying over and over again until I pull a lucky one.
Plus, the plot is mediocre compared to Gears and the battle system is a slow-moving mediocre version of Gear's as well. The Gears in Xenogears were much cooler than the AWGs or whatever they were called.
A decent RPG, but I would rent it and then pruchase it, if I was satisfied.
(BTW, Kevin looks like a blue-haired Squall. O-o)
