Goodness, I've been starting a lot of threads lately. I would like to know what kind of hardware or software I need to play import games on my American PS2.....and where can I get it if you please. Any help would be appreciated.

I am the man to your rescue!

First off, there are a number of choices for playing imports.
1. A mod chip.
2. A fliptop (Requires a Swap Magic Disc)
3. A swap-card thing. (Requires a Swap Magic Disc)

I wouldn't recommend the modchip, as it requires a lot of soldering with wires, and it's pretty risky. Plus you need a separare memory card.

I recommend the fliptop. I've never tried the swap-card but I hear it's pretty easy.

To install a fliptowe need to know what kind of ps2 you have.

Is it a slim? If it is a regular one, does it have 8 screws or 10 screws? (Look at the bottom, the screws are under a plastic-or-rubber square thiing that is easily removable with a small wedge-like thing, like a flathead screwdriver.
Reference Here
There are 3 different types of Old-ps2 fliptops. A 10-screw one, an 8-screw one, and a modified 8-screw one for v9/v10 ps2s. The new slim-ps2 has it's own fliptop as well.

Installing a flitptop is kind of easy, but requires some careful hands, and removing the warranty from your PS2. If you remove the warranty sticker, and your ps2 breaks, you cannot replace it from Sony. You can try to send it to them, but they will just send it back, and you will have to pay for all that shipping. Yes Sony is mean and retarded in doing so.

Instructions for installing a fliptop Here

After installing the fliptop, stick in your memory card (You can use the same one with american games on it) and boot the swap disc, after it boots, open the top and switch it with your import game. And voila!

Now, where to buy? Well you got 2 options. (Well, 2 options from what I know)
1. http://www.ps2cover.com - Edit: DO NOT BUY FROM HERE!
2. http://www.ps2fliptop.com
3. http://www.ps2andxboxcovers.com

I know the second one only accepts paypal. But I don't know about the first one either. I ordered my fliptop 3 weeks ago, and it has yet to even ship. Apparently the company is having computer issues, but I'm not certain. You could also try ebay or a specialty-store around you if there is one. Good luck. If you need more help, look around the two websites I gave you, or shoot me a Private Message!
