Watch the trailer o.o it's amazing. And the CGI cutscenes look even better than some gamecube stuff. Just goes to show how capable the ol' DS really is.
So this is the original FFIII that never came out in in the US (The FFIII we know was actually FFVI in japan) and the game is ressurected in fulll 3d and it just looks awesome! <3 I can't wait!

Yeah I was trying to figure out a while ago which was the FF that never came to North America for... whatever reason. So after checking all the PS double-packs (still wondering WHY they didn't just stick it in with FF4 instead of Chrono Trigger? Or even dumber: why didn't they just release all 6 on NES/SNES with the ORGINAL names etc? -_-;)
Yeah this is one of the reasons that I want a DS^^ 1/2, and 4 were released on Advance, but 3, 5, and 6 will all be coming out on DS this yearish or early next year^^ Heh, what's next? An ff7, 8, 9 remake for DS?

I clicked on the site and it's one of those where the ads hate me and like to multiple and blink alot >_< For your answer though: if it appeared on NES... well then, no^^
If you think about it, (in orginal release terms, NOT including remakes and Tactics and 11) they usually release 3 FFs per system...
1-3: NES
4-6: SNES
7-9: PS
10, 10-2, 12: PS2
13: PS3 (heh probably others coming out anyhow^^
Somethign I noticed... probably not exactly PLANNED, but yeah...

I wonder why they decided to change it to 3D? I also wonder if many avid FF fans will be angry at the change.

Well being a remake 3-D = an upgrade to the orginal. I personally don't mind^^ The better the graphics... the better! ^^ I'm still wanting to get the PS collections of 1-6 (minus 3) because they added some updated graphics to them^^ Better graphics don't really effect game play anyhow...

Bleh. They should keep it in it's original state.
Final Fantasy 3 (NES) was probably the best NES Final Fantasy ever. It was the first to incorporate the job-sysyem. And boy, did it have a lot of jobs. You'd start as 4 onion kids, and later you'd change your job. Some sprites taken from FF1 were in it as well. Man was that game fun.
Now.. I dunno. I'm going to remain optimistic though. The 3-D is... well... I dunno. I guess I can tolerate it. (6 Being my favorite, a 2D game) I'm going to assume that it will retain it's old "classic" style. Unlike the more recent Installments (Points to 12 and 13)

How did I know you were going to say that,

I, personally, like to play games the way they were originally made, the way that people got to like them in the first place. When a company takes time to "revamp" games with better graphics it makes me wonder why they aren't taking all that energy and putting it into making new games, instead of trying to perfect something that people already like.

Well, that would be GREAT if they did that to something like FF7^^ People still like the game, but having it upgraded in VERY nice graphics would be something to look forward to... I'd consider it, if they do choose to rerelease it onto PS3^^

I personally love the graphics change. It makes it seem like a whole new game. It would be like taking a classic game like the original zelda and making it completely 3D. That'd be awesome!
I think totally redoing the graphics is way cooler than just making it a direct port of the original, but that's just me. I understand the love for the retro in it's glory, but I bet the translated ROM will be available for download on Wii, and you can just download it online as well. (But I'm not sure about the legalities of that)

To answer your first question, Chrono Trigger is one of Square's most beloved RPGs, and finding an original Super Nintendo copy is next to impossible. Square saw the love for CT, and decided to rerelease it on Playstation, which was one of their better ideas. They also wanted to insert some extra stuff to better explain things going on in Chrono Cross (the movie at the end of the credits).
Now, as to your second question. Translations take a while to do. Final Fantasy II, for example, was going to be released on the NES in America, but the prototype cartridge wasn't produced until 1991. By that time, Final Fantasy IV had already been released, and Square decided to release the Super Nintendo game instead.
Now, since this was going to only be the second Final Fantasy game to reach shores, they decided to rename it Final Fantasy II for the American gamers. They didn't want to suddenly release Final Fantasy IV and have everyone wonder what happened to II and III (although that's what happened when they released VII).
Square also didn't feel the job system in III or V would be popular in the United States, another reason why those two games didn't come over here.
And I have played about 30 minutes worth of the original on a translated ROM. It's a pretty neat game, I'm definitely getting this.

You know, that actually makes sense now... never really thoguht about that^^ But yeah, when 7 came out I'm sure people were wondering where the other 3 went :/

For all you fellow old school fanboys... perhaps games like the originals of Final Fantasy II and III will be translated and avaliable for download on the Wii? Something to think about.
As for this game, my reasons for owning a DS keep growing and growing.
I think I'm gonna finally get mine next week or so.

Boy, could we not be more opposed... I thought that the three weakest games in the FF series were 1, 3, and 5... 1 and 3 had blank heroes (the idea was that you project yourself on them, but as eternal sunshine's fanbase proved, people find it easier to connect with a realistic character than an empty robot) and 5 at least had a story, but it wasn't as good as 4 or 6, both of which just plain had better stories... 3, though... 3 was second worst of the series... I hate 1 dimensional main characters... Well, I can handle 1 dimensional if it's appropriate for the genre, but these went beyond 1 dimensional... They were, like, no dimensional... The onion kids were the worst heroes in the Final Fantasy canon, hands down. My favorite of the first 3 was definately 2, though I did like the creativity it took for all those classes and all those ships (how many friggan ships are in 3?) The only reason I'd get this is for collector purposes, and finally beat the darned thing (in the NES version, I could never get past the mountains where you jumped your ship over gaps... Those mountains were like mazes, and the ships weren't allways cooperative...)
It is cool to see it upgraded to 3d, but I'd have rather it looked like 10, but who am I to complain... I wanted to see 6 in 3d, too, but apparently 6 wasn't that popular in Japan... Makes me sick... To think that 7 was the most popular worldwide is proof to me that the world is ending.

O.o wow. I thought 2 was the weakest. I mean... you level up your weapons??? Come ON... What's with THAT? It ruined a large portion of the game.
I loved 3. Lots of jobs made it fresh. Had the most jobs, like 27 (Besides Tactics. which had like 30)

Well, it's a bit more complicated than that. The English translations of II and III took up way too much space on the American cartridges. This is because English uses two to three times as many characters per paragraph than Japanese does, and for some silly reason, the American NES cartridges were capable of holding less than Japanese cartridges, anyways.
Example:
English sentence - My name is Chris.
Japanese sentence - なまえはクリス
(For those of you who lack Japanese character support, the following is the romaji version, with the in between dashes letters representing one whole character in kana) -na-ma-e-ha-ku-ri-su-
In order for the much larger English translation to actually fit on the cartridge, they had to abbreviate much of the game, which if you can actually get screenshots of the actual translated game, the translation looks pretty horrendous. So they didn't release it. They obviously didn't try with III either, which was even longer than II.

What? I don't remember there being that many jobs... I remember there being less than there were in 5... Now, as for number of vehicles, 3 definately has the most... What jobs were in 3 that weren't in 5?
I LOVED the creative leveling system in 2. I also preferred 2's story, because the characters weren't blank... That's what sorta ruins 3 for me...
Tactics, however, is on a whole other realm... It owns 3 and 5 by far, IMNSHO... The job system worked for it, because there were also specialty skills that only certain characters had (guts, aim, holy knight, etc) and the characters were interesting... The jobs themselves don't keep things fresh, they just make all the characters the same... Now, in tactics, most of your characters were the same, but they were sorta just faceless soldiers, wheras the focus characters were actually interesting...

that was probably part of why Seiken Densetsu 3 never got a stateside release... When translated into english, the cartridge size ended up being more than 32 megabits (4 megabytes), which was the top limit for Super Nintendo carts (one advantage the genesis apparently had over the SNES, as they could get 48 megabit cartridges...) The translated SD3 can ONLY exist as a ROM for that reason... A full size version can't be made on cartridge...

You mean 22... There are 22 jobs in FF3. There are also 22 jobs in FF5, if you count the basic jobless state (in FF3, that would be onion kids, but in FF5 it was just the characters)
I also liked the system in 8, which was a break from the monotony as well. I also liked Chrono Cross...

Yeah, and it was a crying shame too, since SD3 was a fantastic game.
