The Compilation of Final Fantasy VII

Postby Tommy » Mon May 15, 2006 2:26 pm

Welcome friends, as we discuss the ENTIRE FF7 series, share theories, and share our opinions on the sequels and spinoffs.

1) FF7- Great game that started it all. I absolutely loved this game to death, the characters, the gameplay, the plot, everything.

2) FF7: AC- The Movie was pretty interesting but just wasn't as good as the game plot-wise. A heck lot better than "Spirits Within", let me tell ya.

3) FF7: BC- I`ve read the gamescript and am still wondering if this game for the cellhpne will ever reach America.

4) FF7: CC- Making an Action RPG about Zack BEFORE he died was NOT a good idea IMO. Just another way to milk some cash.

5) FF7: DoC- The cutscenes are identical to Advent Children, and the graphics are just "freakin` sweat" as Peter Griffin would say. Looks like a fun playthrough, but a crappy way to wrap of the FF7 universe considering that Vincent who had almost no attention in FF7 is now the main protagonist. I didn't even know he existed until my third playthrough of the original game.

I got around to watching the reminiscence of FF7 and yes I will admit defeat that Zack was in fact shot in the head right outside Midgar. The funny thing is that I have absoluetly no recolection of that sceen whatsoever. I think that i might have walked out during that scene and my brother might have just skiped through it without me knowing it.

Anyway BC is supposed to be cellphone game right? That sucks cause I dont have one so i hope they will release it on another format. And Im totally lost on what last Order is supposed to be about. I guess there just tryin to get as much as they can from 7 cause nobodys gonna like 12. After playing the demo it got droped several slots on my Ive gotta have list of games.

Anyway back on subject im one of those suckers who would buy every little thing even the snowboarding game as long as its got something remotely to do with FF7. It rocks and is the best game ever.

Vincent is a awesome charecter even given he wasn't a huge part of VII. He is one of me favirote charecters. They gave him his own game because the fans from what i have heard wanted more about him because he is just that freaking cool.

If I recall correctly, that scene is completely optional. On Disc 3, you have to go down to the basement in Nibleheim and press O at the test tube.

I thought that scene was only on the Japanese "Final Fantasy VII: International version" I know there is at least ONE scene they have that we don't...

the full last order anime is only on teh japanese special edition i believe. at least its not on my european region disc. tho i have seen the fansub. ye the scene where zack gets shot is teh optional scene, and it is in all versions of the game.

i think DoC looks quite cool and the story fills in the gap between AC and FFVII, i wanna get the the mobile game but doubt it will get released anywhere but japan.

I dont think i did that. I only went into the shinra Mansion so i could get Vincent and I probably over looked it. No wonder i thought he died in the reactor.

Me wrote:I know, FFVII is like, old news compared to many of the upcoming FF games, but I just recently found an interest in this storyline.

I don't play any of the FF games due to certian convictions, but my mom rented "Advent Children" and said it was alright. (Some of you know this) I watched it and was curious as to how this story played out exactly. So I looked it up on Wikipedia, and now understand the movie clearly.

Advent Children is my current favorite movie, and I let it play in my TV in my room even when I'm not watching it. XD Just so I can hear the Japanese (Hate the dubbed version). I bought a double disk edition of the movie, including the short anime movie "Last Order". Has anyone seen this yet? And I also bought the soundtrack.

I wrote all that in a thread I started...but Tom pointed out that he already made one. So here I am.

Has anyone not seen Last Order but wants to?

Okay, since the last thread got owned, I suppose I have no choice but to move here.

Tom Dincht wrote:The reason why most people hated this movie is because it didn't live up to the game.

Not true. The reason why most people hated the movie is because it was poorly written and, therefore, poorly executed. Visuals have nothing to do with it. I suppose that in this time, more people like flashy things with little or no substance, which is why we have 'pimped out' cars and XBox 360.

Tom Dincht wrote:Can you explain more about why you can't by the way?

FF7 doesn't consist of Black Magic or White Magic, just Magic. I don't see how shooting up an enemy with a small pillar of fire is any worse than unrealistically slashing someone numerous items until they died.

Hm. From what I can remember it was the Dark Majic that Sephiroth used to summon Meteor again (?). But in order to stop it, only Aeris could pray to Holy so he could send the White Majic to "save the day". Then after blah blah blah, the Holy came and ended up causing more damage then not, hence Aeris sending the Lifestream to save the day.
Make sense?

Besides the Dark and White Majics, the story of FFVII is pretty Sci-Fi. I am intriqued by it.

Oh, and if anyone doesn't understand why they changed Aeris name like on KH, here's an explaination:
There is no "TH" in the Japanese langauge, so say you what to say "The", they would say "Za" (Pronounced "Zuh"). So Aerth's real name is Aerth, but in Japan they call her "Aeris".
Same for Cloud. The word "Cloud" is an English word, and in Japanese they rarely end in consinants, so they call him "Kuraudo".

In reply to what you guys said in the other thread about how it could be better. I realized I am not a true FFVII fan, and unlike most you who have played the game and know every detail, no matter where I go I can't find as much as that. So I will admit that I don't have a ton of knowledge of this game, but I think in it of itself, Advent Children is a pretty cool movie of it's genre. *shrugs*

You're absolutely right. For waht it is, it's good. But, as I said before, what it is isn't all that great to begin with.

And, I will say that if you enjoyed the movie you should play the game. I understand that your parents don't approve of it, but it's a decent play. If you ever do get the chance, play it. Most people here will be like, "ZOMG BEST GAME EVAR" but I'll be the first (and probably only) to say, it's a mediocre game. But mediocre doesn't mean bad. It means it's okay.

I don't get why Last Order was anime. Why didn't they just use all of the Advent Children characters? They already had 'em rendered and stuff. It probably would've been more enjoyable for me. Ah well.

possilbe or they just wanted different than what they already had. And also Tom you said they don't use Black or white magic but they do. Specially since well In the original games there were black mages and white mages. Not to mention that Vivi from FF9 was a BLACK mage there fore they do use black and white magic. Just thought i'd clear that up

Yeah, just because the game doesn't go out and label them as 'black magic' materia and whatnot doesn't mean that it's not black magic. Many FF games label the Fire, Blizzard, Thunder, etc spells as black and Cure, Protect, Holy, etc spells as White.

FINAL FANTASY MAGIC LESSON!

Though the Materia in FF7 is not divided into different categories in the game, each type of spell does fall under a specific type of magic. Here is a short primer on Final Fantasy Magic.

Black Magic - This is your standard attack magic. Black Magic primarily consists of the elemental spells, which vary between series, but which Fire and Bolt are always a part of. Wind (Aero), Ice, Water, Earth, are often seen too. Spells which deal direct damage but are not elemental, such Flare, fall in this category too, the exception being Holy. Status effect spells like Confuse or Poison also are Black Magic. Meteor and Demi often classified as Black Magic too, though in Final Fantasy Tactics they are considered to be Time/Space Magic.

White Magic - White Magic is mostly spells that aid the party. Cure, Antidote, Esuna, Protect, Shell, and the like. If it's curative or restorative, it's White Magic. Holy is also always classified as White Magic, even though it is a direct damage spell.

Time/Space Magic - The odd man out, this is considered a separate magic style in Final Fantasy Tactics and Final Fantasy V. Time/Space Magic includes Demi, a spell that doesn't deal direct damage, but instead a percentage of damage based on the enemy's current HP. Spells like Haste, Slow, Stop, etc. are also Time/Space Magic. However, other series, such as FF9 and FFX, do not have a separate Time/Space category for magic. In these cases, spells that affect enemies (like Slow or Stop) are classified as Black Magic, and spells that affect allies (like Haste or Reflect) are classified as White Magic.

Blue Magic - Blue Magic first appeared in FFV. The methods for learning Blue Magic vary from game to game, but most often involve you getting hit by the spell that is learnable, and surviving, thus allowing you to permanently know the attack and use it later. In FF8, Blue Magic was Quistis' Limit Break, and in FF9, Blue Magic was learned by Quina eating the enemy when it was weak enough. The Enemy Skill Materia in FF7 serves as the Blue Magic of the game.

Summon Magic - Summon magic sometimes plays a large role in the storyline of the game (like in 9 and X) and sometimes it doesn't (Tactics and V). It involves the calling of magical creatures to come and aid the party somehow.

And there you have it. Magic a la Final Fantasy. The magic in FF7 does fall into these different categories, even if the game doesn't make use of the categorization.

To supplement Time/Space, I do believe (I'm too lazy to go check) that Quake is also classified as Time/Space in FF8. But, you may not want to include this due to FF8's additional category of 'Forbidden' magic, which includes spells such as Ultima, Flare, Meteor, and such.

I said it wasn't literal magic like the kind we see in our world today performed by Witchdoctors, Sorcerors, ect.

If you know Magicians with specific spells such as Cure, Fire2, and Demi, let me know.
