The Halo 3 Thread

With the upcoming release of Halo 3, and the incredibly beautiful trailer on Gamespot, there is sure to be much talk about it. Let me fill you in on what I could tell from the trailer; Cortana has either fused with Gravemind, gone rampant, or both. There is a three mile wide crater that appears in Africa, and a Forerunner structure comes out of the ground from it. The last line of the trailer is, (Said by Cortana) "This is how the world ends."

Pure pinch me till I bleed awesomeness. Oh by the way we could really use an Xbox 360 official thread. There may not be as many Xbox and Xbox 360 supporters as the other systems but I think there's enough.

Actually, an E3 thread would be nice since all the previews are coming from there.

Yeah, I saw this trailer and am very happy about one thing: He's using the good old Assault Rifle. The SMG just wasn't the same.

*is hoping for a gameplay viewing booth similar to 3 years ago with Halo 2*

Looks nice, I really enjoyed the trailer and, yes, it's good to have our 'ol buddy the battle rifle.

However, I'm going to miss Cortana, if she really has lost it or been infected. I loved her remarks.

GAH! I'm still going nuts!

I hope Cortana isn't rampant. It just wouldn't be the same without her chunnering away in my ear whilst I stick Grunts...

...multiplayer? They should have Cortana do the multiplayer voice! I mean, really, that'd be flipping sweet.

Sorry, I'm just still in shock, so I'm a little tipsy with joy...

Ah, yes. Halo 3. I'm going to have to play this when it comes out. Hopefully it will do more with the plot than the second game did.

Really? I disagree. Her voice saying, "Killtacular" just wouldn't be as rewarding.

no it wouldn't but cortana's voice would be a fun voice masker for the multiplayer

Or a Grunt voicemask...

Yeah, I was thinking that Cortana has probably been infected. And Zilch really did dump his trunks. However, now that I know how long the wait will be, I'm tempted to pick up an xbox live account again ... I sorta let mine lapse. ^^;

I'm just glad that it is apparently coming to an end... Same with Metal gear... the best stories are the ones that end (even though there may be more in metal gear along the line of prequals, like the PSP one that's coming)

Prince of Persia really laid the way for what I hope is a revolution in games, that is ending a franchise when the story calls for it, not when the money runs out... That is one of the main reasons I watch anime: Terminating serials. I love them. This is a good trend, and with Halo doing this, I have to actually play through the 1p modes in 1 and 2 now... Just need to find a friend with an x-box

That's what I did. But I do recommend you play through the game, because its plot is better than most. If you're just interested in finishing it quickly, set the difficulty level to the lowest and then don't bother fighting enemies - if you're agile enough, you can get through almost all locations in both games without actually fighting anyone.

I downloaded the trailer in HD on gamespot and.....the pure awesomeness cannot be described in any language know to humanity. I mean the graphix are beautiful and that can't even describe them. I have been anticipating this game for way to long! I just hope bungie comes up with enough new features to keep us entertained. I don't know what new features you could come up with but I sure hope they come up with something!

Anyideas on what you think bungie should put in the game? I for one think they shouold make the pelicans drivable, that would be cool.

Do you play Halo2 on X-box live ?

Some changes to Halo 3 I can see coming or at least I hope are coming

-We've already seen the modified assault rifle the Chief has. I expect it to have better range, accruacy, and be slightly more powerful. It was always annoying to unload an entire clip in an Elite until he died.

-Pistol from Halo 1 but probably less accurate and less powerful from long range.

-Passenger view again in Warthog and Spectre. It always made sense in Halo 1.

-All original Halo and Halo 2 maps in multiplayer as well as new ones of course. This ones probably not as likely but I expect to see favorites like Blood Gulch, Beaver Creek, and Lockout return in a remixed form.

-Driveable Phantoms.

-It's a good bet that Halo 3 will have alot more moments like in Halo where you were part of "big" battles between the Covenant abd the Humans. I'm talking about missions where you must assault places with land and air support from Scorpions on the ground and Longswords in the air for example. A dozen Pelicans dropping off dozens and dozens of marines and you leading a huge combined assault on a compound. That kind of thing.

-More freaky aliens. What I mean is not just bipeds and animal looking creatures like the Covenant but something really freaky like The Flood.

-A rudimentry squad direction command system using the D-pad. I'm a little hesitant about this one. I like not having to worry about my squad in Halo and Halo 2 too much, but at the same time sometimes I wish I could control them a bit more. As long as it didn't take away from the experience and became a chore I'd be fine with it.

There's alot more I've thought of but I don't have alot of time to remember them all right now.

In terms of plot and how that relates to gameplay, I hope to see some things that are honestly new. I enjoyed Halo 2, which indeed developed the plot (especially Gravemind), but in the end a lot of things were still the same: Covenant and Flood versus you.

I honestly thought the whole Gravemind thing was very lame. It felt so tacked on because it was the stereotypical omnipotent being that delivers the earth shattering plot twist. Also his lines were very awkward and just plain lame sounding.

I'll admit there was some of that, and it wasn't terribly well animated. But when I first saw Gravemind it seemed so different from what had been seen before. The way it manipulated both of the main characters, however, did seem a bit forced. Ultimately, I'm fairly willing to forgive, when it comes to the plots of FPS.

Oh yeah it didn't ruin the experience of the game for me at all just threw me for a loop. I'm deffinetly not one of those people that rags a great game for it's every flaw. And I'm deffinetly not one of those people that scrutinized Halo 2 to death.

I have another one to add to the list that shouldn't be a suprise. The Elites, the grunts, and the hunters have now obviously split from the Covenant, joined thye Heretics, and sided with the humans. So it should be expected that the Arbiter will be back as a playable character. And of course there will be lots of combined human/heretic missions. This is also another reason why I expect them to either add a new force entirely along with The Flood and the Covenant or to add more enemies to be fought in the Covenant. I think both are likely.

At the end of halo 2 didn't the chief and the arbiter kind of join? That's what it seemed like to me.

another thing I would like to see is more time on earth and less on the halo environment. I loved the levels on halo and it seemed like you were forced back onto the ring planet really quickly. That just my personal thought.

yes indeed it did. They were hyping the Earth levels alot it seemed then you only got to play a few earth levels before having to go to some alien land.

Gravemind essentially forces them to cooperate. But by the end they seem to be working toward the same goal anyway (especially given that the Arbiter fights with marines in the last level).

That's true. However, there isn't that great a difference between a Halo and other random levels (the main one being that the Earth levels have city combat, which I thought was a nice change). Hopefully Halo 3 will have a greater mix overall.
