Mega Man X Collection

I can't recall if anyone started up a thread on this already, but has anyone else given it a try? :) The Mega Man X series is much harder than the original Mega Man series, I've found -- but also a bit more replayable. That is, one wants to keep going back to try the other characters and find all the hidden items and such. @_@

So far I've played up to X5, but X1 is still my favorite by far. ^_^

Yeah, I bought this a few days ago. It's pretty awesome :] I've been a fan of the X series for years. X1 and X3 are probably my favorites. To me, the X series is easier than the original Megaman games...I have a really hard time with those (except Megaman 7).

Auuugh, I waaaants~ The X series is awesome-sauce, and X4 is one of my favorite games ever. :( I definitely want to grab this, since X5 is the only one I really own.

X4 was great, and X5 had some cool boss fights (X versus Zero? Sweet!).

X6 has horrible, badfunny translation ("We are a afraid and we got hurt!").

Essentially, I just want to play Megaman 2, despite the absence of all things Magma Dragoon.

Yeah, I'm planning on getting this one very soon. I loved the original Mega Man Anniversary Collection that came out in '04 (I've replayed that game more than perhaps any other in my collection), and I've always wanted to play the X games, but never actually got into them.

Regarding the difficulty: Doesn't this collection have an easy mode and a normal mode, similar to the one implemented for the original collection from '04? If so, then the difficulty shouldn't be much of a deterrent.

X4 and X7 were the only ones I was cabable of beating. The Zero series is MUCH harder.

Bought it this Friday. Love it. I always wanted to collect the X series so I got X7 and X8 with it. Now all I need is Command Mission.

The only bad thing about this collection is Battle Chasers. Well, maybe not bad, but it ain't no Mario Kart.

The Zero series is MUCH harder.

I'd like to pick this series up. I wonder if they'll come out with a collection for this as well...

The Zero games are for masochists only.

At any rate, I love the MMX games, and I did buy this collection. I love the first 2 games very much, the third is okay, and the fourth was good EXCEPT for the voice acting. Oh, how horrible the voice acting in X4 was. X sounded like a little girl and Zero's famous "WHAT AM I FIGHTING FOOOOOOOOOOOOR?!" and his "NOOOOOOOOO!" were on par with Darth Vader from Episode III.

X5 was good aside from a storyline that made no sense, and it only got worse with X6. However, the music in X6 and the gameplay were awesome...even though Capcom took out the voice acting for it in the Collection. BOO.

Fun fact: Mega Man X6 was supposed to be the last X game. If you get Zero's ending in X6, you'll see that it would have led perfectly into the Zero series. However, Capcom wanted more money, so the perfect transition into the Zero games was lost, and who knows what's going on now.

By the way, you bought X7? I'm sorry. X7 was the only Mega Man game I haven't beaten. It's just that bad.

X7 had AWESOME gameplay and an AWESOME challenge. I like the old Xs better, but it wasn`t Bad. The game didn`t get really god until X joins you.

Me and my friend had an all nighter and we beat the whole thing. It was awesome.

I never purchased X7, it belonged to my cousin.

Heh, so I've heard. Makes me want to get the game just to see if it lives up to its legendary hardness.

X4 is my favorite. So far. I'm currently playing through X5 right now. But, yeah, X4's voice acting is the worst I have ever heard. Ever. However, it was the first game to bring out Zero as a fully realized character. This added a good deal of replay and variety to the game. Also, Zero's story line had a real kick-ace cutscene toward the end. One thing I never figured out though, is how Sigma came back. His true form is that of a virus, and the virus was deleted in X3. There's no way he could come back. Unless X4 and on's Sigma isn't the original, but an exact copy.

Huh, that is a fun fact. I'm interested to see how X7 and X8 end.

Meh, I'm a completist. But I had always heard that X6 was the worst. Still, I'm pretty sure I'll like them both to a degree....maybe.

It could be. There are multiple Sigma Viruses in X5 (part of the storyline), so it's possible that the "original" Sigma Virus is lost, and the others are exact copies.

Meh, I'm a completist. But I had always heard that X6 was the worst.

X6 was probably the worst in terms of storyline (the whole Nightmare thing and Zero's deus ex machina return are pretty lame), but X7 was worst in terms of gameplay. The 2D/3D thing was executed poorly, the levels were insanely hard, and the rescuing Reploids thing was UBER-hard (especially in Tornado Tonion's level, you'll literally have to sacrifice four or five lives to rescue them all). Further, the boss weapons that you are to use don't work well...Snipe Anteater takes like practically NO damage whatsoever, even using the weapon that he's supposedly weak to. On the plus side, it is the game that introduced Axl, who while not particularly useful in X7, is a valuable party member in Command Mission and X8. It also introduced Zero's weapon system, in which he uses weapons other than his Z-Saber, which is awesome. But overall, X7 is just really bad in gameplay terms (the storyline is fair).

My biggest complaint with X7 is it undid all of what the other X games were leading up to. Up until X7, it had been implied that Dr. Light was still alive in SOME form. This was evident in X5 and X6 when obtaining armor capsules with Zero.

In Slash Grizzly's stage, if you get X's capsule with Zero, Dr. Light appears and says, "You...you're Zero, aren't you?" and starts talking with Zero about X, things that Dr. Light wouldn't have known unless he was still alive. Flash forward to X5's ending where X and Zero both lay scrapped on the ground and a soft blue light is seen...hmm...and a mysterious voice says, "X, it isn't your time yet...I will repair you." Signas and Alia even comment "Nobody knows how to fix X or Zero's body systems...there isn't a single Reploid alive that could have repaired them."

Further, Wily is still alive too. In X5, Sigma's final form mentions "I've joined forces with an old man who seems to know a lot about you. It seems he built quite a few robots in his day as well. See X, I am not the only one that hates you." This theory is supported in X6 when Zero gets X's armor capsule in Infinity Mijinion's stage. Zero tells Light, "You...you must be the one that repaired X. Did you repair me as well?" Dr. Light answers that he did not, and Zero asks, "Do you know who did repair me, then?" Light remains silent...implying that he seems to know who built Zero and that that is the only person who could have repaired him, but Light finally says, "I'm sorry, I don't know." (Probably lying).

However, in X7, the dialogue for the armor capsules was written so that it seemed Light WAS indeed dead, resorting to "If you see this recorded message, then the world must be in trouble again." Ugh. They undid the last two games in one fell swoop. Now who knows what the status of Wily and Light are...they were alive it seemed, now they're dead again...who knows.

The zero series is exceptionally difficult, but it varies from game to game. I have played 3 out of the 4 (or is 5 out already?) and the difficulty is varied but I have to say 1 was probably the hardest so far.

Finding that out has made me kind of angry, too. You don't just ignore continuity like that. I wonder if X8 fixes this.

I have a question about Command Mission. When does it take place in the X universe? I'm trying to play the X games in story order and don't want to get out of sinc.

Command Mission was surprisingly good. I never finished it due to the fact i was playing games in the Grandia and Star Ocean series at the time so I was much more occupied. Although I probably stand alone here, my favorite Megaman division was Legends.

Of course, I felt like I was watching the One Piece dub in terms of jokes while playing it, the graphics and gameplay were unique.

Kaemmerite, you say the 3D/ 2D thing was executed poorly. Explain how? I liked it. Then again, Unlimited SaGa had a passing grade in my book so....

Not particularly. They more or less treat Light as a hologram in X8 as well. The storyline of X8 also makes little sense, but the gameplay is excellent.

I don't understand the whole "We can go Maverick at will" thing. That's like saying someone can go insane at will. Furthermore, why does anyone think it’s smart to mass-produce Reploids with copy chips? Forget the Maverick issue]I have a question about Command Mission. When does it take place in the X universe? Command Mission doesn't really have any bearing on the regular X storyline, but Axl is in it, so it happens at some point in time between X7 and X8 I would assume.

Why does it seem like Zero dies in every even-numbered X game?

Did you mean odd-numbered?

X1: Zero dies.
X2: Resurrected!
X3: If fighting the mosquito mini-boss, Zero dies
X4: Zero is fine.
X5: Zero dies from Sigma's shot.
X6: He returns!

Yeah. Odd numbered, Josh. Not even. ;)

Just got my copy of the MMXC a few days ago and am working on X1. Funny how, back when I used to play it on the SNES, I would do stuff without even giving it a second thought, and now I can't remember what those things were--like what weapons I used on mini-bosses and where I got the four sub-tanks. Nevertheless, so far it's been a nice little battle through memory lane....

I've noticed that lots of people didn't care for X7. I didn't like it at all either, at first, but once I got used to the gameplay it really grew on me. X8, on the other hand, I just couldn't get into, mostly because of the awful new art style, but also because it seemed like you had to memorize a stage before you could get through it, rather than utilizing real skill. Never even made it to a single Maverick, and didn't care.

As for the driving plot, I'd always assumed that Dr. Light had been dead for some time, since in the regular MM titles the date was stated as 20XX, while in the X series it was 21XX (and had to have been at least 2115, since it was listed as the most recent copyright date of Dr. Cain's equipment software). Light was already quite old in the MM series, so he couldn't have lasted that many more years. Dunno about the whole conversation with Zero thing; maybe the AI figured it out...? Heh! But I personally loved X1 - X3 and feel that it went downhill fast after X4. X7 is the title in which the series finally seems to improve again, only to take another nosedive with X8. Sigh....

I can admit X8 sucked beyond reason but X7 was really good.

Kaemmerite: Funny how X dies in every game to but having a certain amount of lives will bring him back.

Funny. If life was like a videogame, I think Pheonix Downs would make killer sales. XP

Argh...I've got no comment here, but I'll say that some people are annoying me with their willingness to aruge with everyone.

Tom: Phoenix Downs don't bring back the dead...when someone's HP went to 0, they passed out. If they brang back the dead, then
Aeris would not be dead.
Huh. In my opinion, X7 nearly destroyed the franchise, and X8 revived it. But, everyone's got different tastes, I guess.

At least we can all agree the first one ruled. :P

Destroyer2000, you completely looked around that pun. That is usually what I say when I argue against people on that topic.

Conisidering you status is KO`d and not dead I was aware of that.

It was just a joke because of how videogame characters get extra lives and crap.

True that.

Just finished X5. It started out kind of dull story-wise, but got pretty good toward the end. There were a few things I didn't like, though. Zero not having his own storyline was definitely a bad thing. It pretty much makes playing as him pointless. You want to use X all the time because his special weapons are more useful for getting items. Not to mention that if you're playing as Zero and find a Dr. Light capsule, you gotta replay the level to get it. I also don't like that you have to get every piece of armor before you can wear it.

I wish Capcom would have given some of the new characters introductions. Instead, boom, there they are.

I guess, technically, this is the worst MMX game I've played so far. I still liked it, though. I'm likeing MMX6 so far aswell(love that opening theme).

I agree. I started playing and when Alia and Signas showed up, I was like, "Who are these guys?"

Zero can also only get a grand total of six heart tanks, I think, because so many of them require the Gaea Armor or Falcon Armor. Well, besides the ones you get from beating bosses. I didn't like the idea of having to beat bosses to get powerup items, though. You have to waste so much time to get them all.

There were three endings though, which was kind of cool.

I guess, technically, this is the worst MMX game I've played so far.

Guns N' Roses names for the bosses = crap.

I'm likeing MMX6 so far aswell(love that opening theme).

I really liked X6, though it was ridiculously hard the first time I played it. I also want to strangle the guy who designed Blaze Heatnix's stage. Fighting the same boss 5 times is NOT cool.

And yes, the opening theme rocks. The ending theme is awesome too. The music was one of the best parts of X6, for sure (except Ground Scaravich's theme...ugh).

Ill admit it I played the x games for zero. Well x got me to play x2 then I saw zero and was like "that guy is awesome" and 3 totally hooked me (and i happen to have the x3 cart by the way). Something about zero has always made me play as him whenever possible.

The next game for the x series on psp better have zero playable....

I have to say I have a special place in my heart for x4 since it was the first game you could play as zero in and whatever one that had zero fighting x at one point was also one of my favorites (that was on of the funnest fights ever because all the crazy x4 moves x could wip out in that fight)

Is it just me or are the "X Games" (do not make a pun out of that) seem like Sonic games except you shoot instead of go really fast. It just seems to be the characters are based on each other.

Megaman=Sonic
Zero=Knuckles
Roll=Amy Rose

Wait.....is Roll in any of the X games? ( SHUT UP! )
