Mario Kart DS

Any other fans of this WONDERFUL game? I love the classic courses and, of course, the wi-fi online mode. I can't get enough of the online racing, especially since I've always played Mario Kart games alone (except for the first one, which my mom got into for a while when I was a young'un). I never had friends who I could race with. So this game is a blast.

Anyone else enjoying the online mode? The only thing I don't like is that some players can be rude without penalties. I was about to win the final race of a match earlier, but the other players decided to log out when they realized they couldn't catch up (I found a sweet shortcut in the Sky Garden). So I didn't get to record my hard-earned win for my point tally.

I was thinking: Maybe some of us CAA'ers could trade Friend Codes and join up to play some matches every now and then. I'm thinking that we could be nice enough to each other to not log out when someone else is winning. ;)

Oh, and on a final note, my favorite racer thus far is (I'm ashamed to say it) Toad. Yes, the most annoying racer from past games is my fave in this one. He handles corners so well, and since I like to do those slide boost thingies all the time, he's perfect for me.

Argh. The wireless router we have doesn't work with MKDS. I was so disappointed to learn that after we installed it. If I find a way to make it, I'd totally exchange friend codes, though. My fave racer so far is Dry Bones ^_^

Ah! This game is awesome! Unfortunatly I am in a dial-up household, so I can't play online, but there's always the hotspots in town ^^;; Such a cool game.

Yep. Error 52000. The DS wifi website doesn't help me, so if you can help me out, Shia Kyosuka, I'd really appreciate it!

I'll be happy to give all of you my friend code as soon as I get back to Cali and am able to use my wireless router to connect.

Just out of curiosity, have any of you started practicing Snaking yet? Or, am I the only one so far?

i don't play, but i like to watch my brother play. he's actually quite good. He snakes like crazy. He's beaten inferno, and tied raptor, whom are two very good gamers online. i'll try and see if he wants to give his friend code out, if you want.

EDIT: inferno is a 3 star player with 1000 wins, raptor is a 3 star player with 1100 wins

Alright, This is what I did.

Your DS can't figure out that it has an IP address already.

So, You'll have to put it in manually. To figure out what it is, put 192.168.2.1 in your address bar, login, go to advanced login, and find status.

In status, you should be able to find the DHCP Client Log.

I'm not sure how your router works, but for me, I had to click inside the window, and scroll down.

That's where I found the IP address with the name NintendoDS.

Put that into your Nintendo DS manually.

Also on the Status page, you should find the other stuff like:

Subnet mask
Primary DNS
and Secondary DNS

Put those in manually as well.

Your Gateway # is 192.168.2.1.

That's what I had to do.

If you're still having problems, tell me. I'll try to help you some more.

^_^

Well, I don't completely understand how it works yet, but I'm guessing it's something like holding in the Power Slide for the whole track or whatever?

Gosh, I hate those Power Slide missions... I have only one Mission left, where you have to do 14 of them. >_<

Oh, and I'm going to personally strangle Daisy's VA if I hear that "WOO HOO!" one more time...

I'm not sure what snaking is. I have noticed that if I stay right behind the racer in front of me and then try passing, I suddenly get this HUGE burst of speed. What is that?

And if you have an Apple Airport wireless router, it automatically configures everything for you. The game recognizes it as a hotspot.

Oh, and I was wondering: should we post Friend Codes publicly or exchange via PM? I doubt that doing it publicly would hurt anything, but I thought I'd make sure.

Snaking is where on straight-aways you constantly do power slides for the entire straight-away. It's MUCH faster than simple barreling down the center. Snaking can only be done with a few carts though, such as Yoshi's Egg 1, anything with HIGH handling and quite low drift.

It's hard to do and is a killer on your thumbs, but I managed to get almost 2 seconds shaved off my ghost for the figure 8 track so far.

Also, when you're behind a person and the lines appear, it's called drafting.

Ah... would this be the reason your R button broke?

I'm still not able to get my DS to connect to my router. I input all of the information you said to (except for primary and secondary DNS, it didn't have those). Sorry for taking up so much of your time. Also, my gateway wasn't what you said it was, and I don't know if that makes a difference or not. Sorry... I honestly don't have a clue about how all of this works. Maybe we can do AIM or something and try to get it figured out.

what encryption have you set up on your router? if i remember correctly, the DS doesn't support WPA.

Don't use the gateway found on the status page.

The gateway you're supposed to use is 192.168.2.1, though some people's gateway is 192.168.0.1. I think the most common is 2.1 but I'm not sure.

I'm pretty sure you should have a primary and secondary dns...

Try looking in the router some more.

Ugh... I've tried everything I know to get this stupid thing to work. I've looked under every subset of every tab and haven't found anything that even *looks* like it could help me. Of course, the fact that I'm totally inept at this kind of stuff could be the reason.... I hate it when this stuff happens. Of course, the help section at NintendoWiFi.com doesn't exactly help me, either, because it's not all there. I go to the page that tells you to select what kind of router I have, and it stops there. I select the kind, and it does nothing.

I've been trying out snaking... quite difficult to get the hang of.

Also, I have only the last three cups on 150cc to go (already beat all the Missions).

Still not getting the hang of snaking.

Oh, and a funny story. I thought that I had found a great shortcut during an online match on the Delfino course, until I realized that that back alley was nothing but mud. I went from nearly winning to dead last. Gotta pack some mushroom heat for that shortcut.

Actually, the shortcut in Delfino that you're talking about is great. It all just depends on the character you're using. Lightweights handle that shortcut very easily.

Yeah, I noticed that today when I used Yoshi on that track. In all honesty, he's an extremely fast racer isn't he? My online race improved greatly when using him. Maybe Toad won't remain a favorite for long...

I tried Yoshi out, too, and although he's a lot faster than my normal character (Dry Bones) I still like DB better. He handles offroad better than others.

My bro uses yoshi too, i believe.

oh, and as a heads up, there's a new tequniqe to further complicate your snaking... if you get the boost at the begining and snake the entirety of the course, dirt won't slow you down and you can cut off insane corners, and go at insane speeds. the ony problem is you can't ever stop, or else you'll be back to normal speed. my brother got pownzored by someone doing this, and since then has been practicing it for the last three days.

I've discovered Bowser to actually be a fairly good racer (my gosh, he's actually fast). It just takes him too long to accelerate.

Same goes for Dry Bones.

I love using yoshi tho I must say in battles i am loving one of the nevy dudes (wario, Bowser and DK)
