I hate the touch screens. In my days you PUSHED BUTTONS on the CONTROLLER to play videogames......alright....let's just say.....I think the touchscreen is weird.

According to what I've read, the DSi software will be region locked, meaning that blkmage's wish of having downloadable content for Ouendan is shattered (since the game is Japanese). However, the DS itself will still be region free. So you can still play Japanese games on the DSi even in America, it's just you won't be able to access any downloadable content for Japanese games.

But it doesn't matter because the WiFi connectivity service is incompatible with the original DS games, meaning any games currently out for the DS cannot use the DSi's abilities for downloadable content.

I see. That makes a lot more sense.

BLEEEEEEHHHH.

But I'm still confused as to whether or not titles released after the DSi comes out will be DSi titles or just plain old DS titles? Will there be fundamental differences?

I still wish they'd just leave well enough alone.

By the way, Kagayaki, a lot of games don't even require use of the touch screen. I hardly EVER used my touch screen until I got My Japanese Coach (in which you use the stylus for practicing your hiragana and katakana and whatnot).

Well, I was expecting them to release a DSi version of Ouendan that had support for DLC and feeling anguish over being unable to play it while being satisfied that my idea came true.

Most of my favourite DS games are touchscreen based. Like the Wiimote, when the controls are done well, it provides a method of control that can't be replicated with buttons and are essential to the mechanics of the game. These are games like Ouendan, Rhythm Tengoku, or The World Ends With You.

In games where touchscreen controls are an afterthought and aren't heavily involved in gameplay mechanics, you usually don't bother with the screen. These are games like Pokemon, Advance Wars, Rune Factory, or Phoenix Wright.

Yes, but......Phantom Hourglass.....isn't that all touch control? That scares me.....one of the reasons I haven't started it.

I don't think you need to worry about the touchscreen for a Nintendo flagship title. They're ridiculously good about tailoring their games to make whatever controller they've come up with feel like the most natural thing in the world.

They've had like... almost four years. I mean, there are some really great games on there, but they are very few and very far between.

While it does mostly rely on touch control and other new innovations of the DS, it's an IMMENSELY fun game, and I never found the touch control difficult to use or unnatural. I'd seriously suggest giving it a shot; it's a lot of fun!

That said, other than Phantom Hourglass, I don't really use the touchscreen in much of anything else I've played on my DS (which would be FFTA2 and Chrono Trigger). When I do use it, it's easy to navigate, but it's just as easy when I don't use it.

As far as getting a new DS goes, heck no. XD I didn't even pay for the one I have now (my brother won it and already had one); no way I'm paying for something I already have (not to mention there's already an excessive camera on my phone). XD

I like everything about Phantom Hourglass except that stinking temple you have to go through every stinking time. Man, that gets frustrating.

And now back on topic. No, I wouldn't get a DSi. I simply fail to see the point. Now, if it made my breakfast, ironed my clothes and sorted out my mail, that'd be a different story.

(that temple did get a bit annoying...)

Just wait, everything you just mentioned will be released on DsiWare. :P

The PSP is an excellent system. I own like six games for it and they're all phenomenal. I don't see why you would need so many games.

Sure the game library is small, but there are some excellent games on it.

But this is about the DS and the DS is a system I shall never purchase.
I just thought your post was worth responding too.

you know what I think? I've only had my PSP 2000 a matter of months and they whip out the 3000 model. I think they ought to give an "upgrade" price- like what adobe does with its creative suites...

Weird as in different from all other hand held and other gaming systems before it? Yes. Cool and innovative? I think so! Like the Wii, its kind of 'revolutionising' gaming. But it still has buttons to be pushed!!

Actually, the touch control makes it easier to play than if you had to us buttons. Easier to aim, easier to swing your sword... its really quite cool. You shouldn't let this stop you from playing, its a good game!

I agree! And yes, there are a lot of games that give you the option of using the touch control or just the keypad controls. And some games you can use both, either/or!

SpoonyBard (post: 1290937) wrote:I like everything about Phantom Hourglass except that stinking temple you have to go through every stinking time. Man, that gets frustrating.

Yeah, that was the worst part about that game. It got even more furstraigting each time, too! XD

But unlike the Wii, it has an extensive library of really good games even without resorting to the backwards-compatibility feature. There's a difference between being innovative and being worthwhile. And worthwhile the DSi ain't.

Looks like the DSi is mostly going to be bought buy people who do not have a DS. I did not forsee this response to the DSi.

You're probably right. Of course those people/kids have parents who are willing to throw away money on something exactly like the older model, even though it only has a few extra changes! Either that, or those people throw money away themselves, given their age. XD

I, however, am content with my DS Lite, and see no reason to buy another hand held as of yet.

You didn't foresee that in a time of economic turmoil that people wouldn't go out to buy a system they already owned only with changes to make it worse?

That about sums it up.

Where did the notion that the DSi has no games come from? The fact that it's just a redesign of an existing console means that it has no games? What?

By this logic, the DS lite was a terrible system and no one should have bought one.
