Tournament: Pokemon Diamond Pearl

Postby Slater » Sat Jul 07, 2007 8:24 pm

Sup, y'all. Been about a year since we had a tournament in here (last one was killed by CAA server downtime), and last I checked I have not been fired from my position of being able to dish the tournaments out here at CAA.

So why not, we're in the middle of summer and it seems that the new Pokemon games are a pretty good hit around here, so why not have a tournament, DP style?

Pokemon Diamond Pearl: Level 50 Singles Tournament

Rules

The rules of this tourny are fairly simple.

1. No Legendary Pokemon. Chances are, if you find its name on this page, it's not allowed in this tournament. All other pokemon are allowed.

2. If you have one pokemon left and it uses a move like Self Destruct or Explosion, you are disqualified from the game. This is the rule that is found in the Stadium series. Chances are, it is in place in Diamond and Pearl already too, but I haven't tested that.

3. All of the pokemon in your party must be unique. This means, for example, you can have a (1, one) Pachirisu on your team, but not 2 or more. You may, however, have a Squirtile, Wartortile, and Blastoise on your team.
Pokemon like Unown and Burmy are all considered 1 type with respect to this rule, whether they look different from eachother or not.

4. All items are allowed in this tournament. Since you can't use items from your bag, this means that they must be held by the pokemon when entering battle. Note that items like Potions and Revives can't be used by pokemon, so these kinds of items are not a problem.

5. Your party may change between battles if you wish.

It is your duty to uphold these rules and to hold your opponents accountable to them. If you spot someone cheating by going against those rules, it is your duty to report them to me. (It's not like I can be a spectator in matches)

Question before I register, when does this tournament start? xD; 'cause I'm going on vacation for about a week or so soon, and I don't want to register if I'm not gonna be here anyway. D:

It starts in less than a week, but there are no time slots for when you have to play or anything. Games are played at your own leisure ;)

What's wrong with rules two and three? I mean, they're completely legitimate strategies. I can understand not being allowed to use Legendaries, but I find nothing wrong in using two of the same Pokemon. I mean, let's say I wanted to use three Wobbuffets, what's wrong with that? Perfectly legitimate strategy.

The problem with two is that you have to first kill your pokemon in order to kill your opponent's. That's how Selfdestruct and Explosion work.

The problem with three is that official pokemon tournaments don't allow duplicate pokemon.

Nonetheless, I see it as removing perfectly good strategies.

Stupid rules. XD

Right. The duplicate pokemon thing is just sorta standard-ish, at least when I play against other friends.

As for the Self Destruct rule, that's a Pokemon Stadium standard... The game automatically declares your opponent the victor if you use Self Destruct with your final pokemon.

Just for some clarification tho... Feel free to use Self Destruct and Explosion in the tournament. No moves are banned, it's just that those moves have certain Pokemon-official conditions linked to them. Pokemon Diamond/Pearl probably already handles those exceptions, anyhow.

So...

When does this tournament take place? And are you going to make a leaderboard or something?

My thought of the whole concept is that, in order to USE the move, you have to KO your pokemon. So if your pokemon KO's in order to KO an opponent, then it makes sense.

That's actually quite right. In DP, I have noticed that when an opponent uses such a move, their HP instantly drops to 0, before the move is even executed.

Nobody knows who they're playing up against yet. You will all know when I post the brackets. However, I can't make the brackets til after registration is closed, in like 4 days.

Anyway, my code is 2277 3181 4090.

Blast, I'll have to train something up real quick to replace my Manaphy. -.-
