Metal Gear Solid Thread

Postby Tommy » Thu Nov 30, 2006 5:29 pm

Let me begin my stating I am new to the universe of Metal Gear and find the 'Solid" series to the be the best, and I am assuming you all agree.

I know there is a 'Hideo Kojima' thread, but that just seems to be a thread congratulating him. This is a thread that can be a giant discussion of the ENTIRE Metal Gear series.

From NES, to PS1, to PS2, to PSP, to PS3. All here.

Let me open by asking a few questions:

1. I own MSG2. The disc is pretty scratched and I know a place that has tons of copies of MGS2: Substance and MGS3: Subsistance. Will I be able to use the same file for MSG2: Substance that I used for Sons of Liberty?

2. How are the Ac!d games? Which part turns you off more, the fact it is turn based or the fact that is for PSP?

3. Who here was disappointed that MGS2 was advertised like Snake was the main character and soon found out the cold truth...

4.
Who saved Meryl?
5. Which Metal Gear game ranks as your all time fave?
(Assumes overall answer will be '3'.)

I have only played the first, but truly loved it, especially the Psycho Mantis battle (I've got to get a PS2 sometime...).

Not really... it was kind of cool to be Raiden, and to see Snake from another person's perspectiv.

4.
Who saved Meryl?

I think she dies. You save Hal Emmerich/Otacon in MGS1, the whole saving Meryl thing might be some "side thing" that wasn't canonized
MGS3 is the best for several reasons
Story, Camo system and the bosses were great

mgs3 was great but the twin snakes though overlooked is awsome too just as good as the original with probably the best graphics of them all!

1. I have no idea ~ I've played a small, small bit of MGS and the Tanker section of MGS2. I know ~ I fail. I'll play them ~ someday. And MGS3. And MGS4. Like, when the PS3 costs something less than the 883 Sportster motorcycle I have my eye on . . . [/exaggeration]

2. Haven't played them, but I'm more turned off that they're for PSP ~ I have a DS Phat.

3. I'm not ~ Raiden is cool, and not just because we share an alias.

4.
I'm going to say that Snake does. I think the "save Meryl" ending is the canon ending, and Otacon survives somehow [he obviously does since he's in MGS2 and 4. She obviously didn't die, since she's shown in the long MGS4 trailer, with her trademark red hair and black .50AE Desert Eagle. Although her outfit isn't terribly flattering . . . XD
5. MGS4. Duh. o_o

I'm assuming that the "Darkness of Shadow Moses" is in the booklet. I don't own the booklet.

Also, ShatterHeartArk, I would consider what you said a spoiler.

Does anyone here know the answer to Question '1'? I posted it first for a reason.

To conclude, I like the fact you aren't Snake because otherwise it would be completly repetitive. However, I highly dislike Raiden's "I can't do this on my own" personality and instead of brave, he's curious.

I mean it's nice to not be Snake once in awhile, but the Chuck Norris to Owen Wilson conversion just doesn't work for me.

Tom i think anyone one who is in a MGS thread would no wheather or not Meryl dies or not. So it is not a spoiler. Also no you can't use the same file unfortunatly but if you look hard enough at Eb you can find MGS2 for like 4.99. and Raiden did have an annoying attitude but near the end once things start unraveling and changing around him he startes getting braver and less curious. Also another reason i like MGS2 is because it has one of the greatest scenes IMO in mgs games. When Raiden and Snake are standing side to side and the ninja like guys are dropping in its just so stinking epic!

I'm not sure if I read the whole thing, but yeah, I know that... Particularly since in the last couple trailers for MGS4, Meryl has been there... A much less obsessive fan should have picked up on THAT one...

The big discovery for me in "in the shadow" was that of Nastasha's Husband...

: : would be that much less obsessive fan : :

Here's a question for all: Who is your favorite antagonist from the MGS games? I'm going with the Cyborg Ninja from MGS, even though
he isn't really Snake's enemy . . .
But I think that just makes him cooler.
Shame he gets squished.
I also think Ocelot in MGS3 was a riot. Especially his "meow". Gotta love that weird MGS humor . . .

Ah villians of MGS there are many greats. I liked almost all of the villians in 3 specially Sorrow and Boss they were both great charecters with a great side story backing them up.

Oh, man... It was so weird to see Ocelot so young and, while a big punk, mostly innocent, but how he latched onto Volgin's horrible sadism... I really hope Ocelot dies in the next game... I know that the weapons are made so they can't hit him (the ID tagged weapons shut down when aimed near him) but that doesn't mean you can't Jimmy rig something up, right?

Ocelot is one sick kitty.

I loved the Boss... Because, well... I think you know why if you played it. I did not, however, like the cobras, short of the sorrow and the joy... Ok, and the end, too... The rest, not so much. Especially the fear and the pain, they were the worst. They were very... GI Joeish... Yeah, and they're called "Cobras" how convenient.

Ocelot was so great in MGS3 just because I thought he was like a villainous Raiden. He kind of knew what he was doing but he was still a little green.

Some of my favorite MGS villains have been Sniper Wolf, Psycho Mantis, Ocelot, Fortune (not for her boss fight or anything, since, well, she doesn't really have one),The End, The Sorrow, and The Boss.

Sniper Wolf was probably my favorite just because her death is so emotional. I loved it.

I thought MGS3 was amazing...Ocelot was fantastic, Volgin was a good, creepy villain, and the story was a-mazing.

I can't wait for MGS4. Um. I'm pretty much just posting to put my two cents in about MGS.

Guys, seriously. There are numerous spoilers here. There may be some people here who haven't played MSG3 yet (like me, I have Subsistence under the Christmas tree now).

Just put spoilers mainly when discussing a death for any MG game.

Actually, there are no real spoilers. Only comments on characters. If you are still mad about my Meryl comment...then you are just gonna have to get over it. The game came out when, like 98? You already said you finished it...so stop whining. Now. For the people who are all "I know she is alive cause of the MGS4 trailer" Did you have that trailer when you finished MG in like 99? No. Did you have it when you finished Sons of Liberty? No. Yes, very very recently we now see it. But before that, fans had to dig through the game. And Tom, In the Darkness is a book that is in the Sons of Liberty game. In the options you can read it.

Oh, cool.

No, Ark , it isn't what you said at all. More of Kkun's. I just find it a spoiler, and while I am already aware of it, I just find it wrong to post that. My opinion entirely. I'm the thread starter, you're the mod, so when it boils down to it, it doesn't matter what I think. If you don't find it a spoiler then this conversation is meaningless, but let me add I have a friend on this website who is playing through MGS1 for the first time and might see this thread.

That is all.

Certainly the most annoying was The Fear and The End. Till I found out you can poison the Fear =p What was taking me a good 30 minutes suddenly turned into about 5.

Then I put on his Cameo, and I was wondering why my stamina kept dropping really fast... Till I actually read what it does >_>

The End was... just annoying. I wasn't able to get his Cameo because I didn't hold him up. (Should have done so. Now I have to do it again)

But the MOST annoying was Revolver Ocelot on the Ravine, simply because my disc kept freezing at that battle, and took me over 50 tries to finally beat him without my disc freezing.

Wow, MSP, that Ocelot thing sucks.

I heard if you shoot the younger Ocelot and kill him you failed the mission because you altered the future.

Anyways, I beat Sons of Liberty last night. Good game, but the amount of propaganda is amazing. Ignoring that, the last boss fights were easy, but fun.

I'm now playing on Extreme Mode and I just started playing as Raiden.

No, I have no hopes of completing it on this difficulty.
