To throw away or not? (Be it Manga, Anime or other stuff)

Postby J_d.d » Sat Feb 02, 2013 7:53 am

Just wanting to know what's the general overview on this matter that's been bothering me a while, i felt a strong conviction, spiritual-wise to get rid and really dispose of certain magazines and manga(Not all, just some that i felt) that i had in my possession because of the content that they were promoting, it wasn't like the the manga or the Newtype anime magazine itself was promoting something porno as its theme or like it was obscene in nature but some of the pages such as the advertisements and the individual pages of the manga chapters were either showing those kinda stuff(promoting those "do not discuss" kind of anime/manga genre, the y-word for a hint) cause i felt an ungodly and unclean presence in my thoughts and feelings especially when i am interacting with people. So am i like being too extreme or really insane? Again to make it clear, when i bought the manga or magazine i had no freaking idea they had this promotional content or didn't even know that page had it(It was all in Japanese, couldn't read back then now learning to study Japanese so sorta got what they were saying now, thick pages).

In the meantime, i am in the midst of throwing them away as i speak. Dead serious. No going back to give myself a sense of peace and cleansing from self-depravity.

When in doubt for Japanese manga magazines, always get JUMP! =D

Actually, because of the manga/anime market in Japan, most any "mangazine" will have these types of advertisements (one exception may be JUMP, but even then) and sometimes manga. Yes, they reflect on the whole zine because of it, but they don't really care because that's the market.

I guess if you are being troubled by it, you could throw out the whole thing (or recycle it to save paper, or you can burn it if it makes you feel better, I guess). But if it's only a small number of pages, why not rip those pages out? (unless it's like half of the mangazine, I guess).

But if you already threw them away, why bother asking us? XD;;

LOL! yeah i actually really plan to do that the next round if i buy any kind of J-anime magazines definitely, probably wouldn't bother to read the whole content, just rip the good pages out and burn the bad ones down. Well i actually wanted to keep some of the content (such as that wonderful Kobato manga parts that the magazine had) but i felt i might remember the rest of the other "unwholesome" content, so not clear with my conscience. Guess i rather be clear with it then live in doubt and sin for myself that is.

As for second qs, haha, i thought it would be good to know usually what christian anime fans handle this kind of ambiguous situations in a biblical way if possible.

^ I think Goldy has the right of it - if the advertisements are what's bothering you, and taking them out won't affect the rest of the magazine (i.e. part of the story isn't printed on the back of it), then why not just rip out those pages?

If you don't care for yaoi or yuri manga (it's okay to say the words, it's actual discussion - i.e. asking "hey guys how do you feel about insert yaoi/yuri title here" - that's not allowed), then feel free to take the stories out or dispose of as you see fit. I mean, there are lots of clean manga that I don't like simply because I think the story/characters are stupid. I don't feel an obligation to keep them simply because I bought it - I donate them to friends or the library as I see fit.

Thanks for the quick reply. Actually it was more of one panel that that *y-moment* that i felt disturbed in my soul about. So i was kinda worried am i being too extreme on my side?

Don't think you're being too extreme. I really respect that you can do something like that. If you feel in your heart like something is wrong, you can never go wrong by following conviction. If you feel like it's hurting you spiritually, I'd say it's a safe bet to get rid of it, or at least the questionable content.

Image What is going on here? You not only censored yourself, but you censored Atria's post also...and you only censored the word yaoi...but not yuri...which should be as equally bad by your standards, but I guess it isn't? And what is a "y-moment"? I'm so confused. Image

I bet the y-moment is short for yaoi moment. Probably had two men kissing or something.

Anycase, if it's merely one panel that is bothering you out of the entire thing, then throwing the whole thing away is extreme and a waste of money. You could always just use black marker to color over it so you don't have to see it, and voila, no more issue.

I can only assume that J_d.d has heard the term Yaoi more than the term Yuri (Yaoi's counterpart genre for girlxgirl love stories), which is probably why he censors only it. But now he knows! ^__^

Anyways, simply, as I stated before, you don't like it? Throw it out. It's a waste of money, sure, but it's your waste of money. Not to mention, outside of Japan, it's hard to find those mangazines too (except in specialty Asian bookstores which exist on the west coast of the US, I believe???), so you'd be throwing away that sort or rarity too.
Thus, if you want to save them, you can do what Atria suggested and take a marker to the images (or rip them out of the zine because they are printed on newsprint or something). But if not, throw them out if they make you feel so bad dude. XD; It's not worth being upset over.

Eh thanks for the replies, i'll try to see how to answer all in return.

ClaecElric4God: Thanks for the encouragement, well i guess i had to do what i had to do to be at peace.

Atria35: Will definitely note that, i also felt a little wasteful of throwing the whole **** magazine away because of the cost, but also i did try to really rip out the pages i wanted in the first place or cut out the "bad parts", but to little avail. In the end i ruin the pages even more. Gotta teach myself to be more delicate the next round in cutting and paste. *Smacks forehead* But i did try the black marker for one specific promotional poster pages and yeah seems to be a-ok no bad feelings so far(Plus it was separate from the main magazine.)

Goldenspines,Xeno,Atria35: Well about that Y-word, Yuri is kinda more than just specifically about girlxgirl(imo for me that is). It is also a Japanese name for females if i recall not just in anime but also a male name in Russian (Yuri Gagarin the Cosmonaut anyone?) also recently its the name of Korean female pop-star as well so it doesn't disturb me as much as the Fujioshi termed one which is like really specifically just that meaning alone and nothing else. As for that random censor thing, i think its more of the software that i used on my computer that might be showing the weird eh....censor? O_o

Again this is just my personal gut feeling, conviction in a spiritual sense kind of terms. Not here to judge others or say i know better, just felt that i had to do it, just wanted to know if other christian anime fans had variable opinions on the issue. Sorry again if i sound redundant.

But that doesn't make any sense. You've just got double standards.

Hmmm, I see the point yea i am indeed practicing double standards then. Thanks for being frank no seriously I mean it. anyway i am trying to disable the censor thing as mention, i kinda went overboard and indeed was practicing double standards by only censoring some words.

My bad, thanks for sharing again. (Already tried to delete the foxreplace program which is causing the weird censor thing but not sure if its working, the censor seems to be still on. Still working on it.)

Not wanting to double post, but google chrome won't let me edit my previous post for some reason. I just changed the browser from firefox to google, so the weird censor nonsense should be gone hopefully. Terribly sorry for messing things up. Really very sorry.
