Wildfires

Current wildfires in TX

This is scary, y'all. See the red emblems north of Houston? One of those happened in my college town today (was contained, thankfully.)

However, other fires are still not completely contained. There is one near/in Bastrop (outside of Austin) that is still 0% contained.

We NEED RAIN. This year is the worst drought in TX in recorded history. Also the most days of 100+ degree temps in recorded history (thankfully it has begun to cool down --high of *only* 91 today!) The entire state is pretty much under a burn ban.

Some of my friends' families have already had to evacuate their homes due to the fires. Please pray for rain and for the safety of everyone involved --citizens, firefighters, emergency personnel, etc.

For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

Wow, that does sound scary. Texas has been in my prayers ever since the drought started, but I hadn't heard of the wild fires until now. I guess it's to be expected with so much dryness and heat. I'll continue to pray for rain and that the fires will get under control. Good luck Sheenar and stay safe!

Texas is enduring its worst drought since the 1950s, and this wildfire is among at least 57 currently burning in the state.

Since last December, 3.5 million acres have burned in Texas – an area about the size of Connecticut. In September alone, more than 1,000 homes have been destroyed and four people – a mother and a baby in East Texas and two people near Bastrop -- have died.

All but three of the 254 counties in Texas are under outdoor burn bans

The good news in this article is that there has been great progress in fighting the wildfire in Grimes County --it was 85% contained as of this morning.
